Hardware PS1/2 Issues with ps2 suddenly not detecting HDD

hardware info:
-ps2 fat SCPH-30001
-ps2 SCPH-10281 Network adaptor w/ sata mod

My ps2 has suddenly stopped reading the Hdd i have inside the bay, this happened while i was mid game playing monster hunter dos online. using winhiip, the drive is still detectable on pc. and even though i can hear the drive spin, it ends up not reading. I don't know what could've happened and i dont understand the hardware well enough to fix it.

Could anybody please help me?

Can you connect the HDD to your PC and check if it's still reading there?

If possible, try running the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool or similar alternative e.g. HDD Scan

It may be the HDD has died.

Think there are fuses in line with the HDD adapter port on the ps2 motherboard, possible one went out I would check them next or try another HDD adapter if you have one handy.

This kinda reminds me to go and read up on what a modern HDD exploit is and to set mine up as a usb hdd instead of dealing with the net adapter and thus simplify the entire process. Might be a decent call for you to do the same.
