Super Duper Paper Mario gets v1.1.0 update, adds turn-based battles to Chapter 2

Originally being added to the Flipside Mod Manager last year, Super Duper Paper Mario aimed to add turn-based battles to popular Wii title. Though only updating the first chapter at the time, it was well-received and had fans excited for future chapters to be adapted. As of a few weeks ago, the mod has been updated to include Chapter 2, with new turn-based combat mechanics added for Peach to differentiate her from Mario.

Beyond this, Chapter 1 has seen a number of balance changes and fixes, alongside new badge menu assets, new battle music, and a prologue skip. Those interested in trying this for themselves can find the release page below.

Kudos to the dev(s). I haven't played Super Paper Mario, but I hear it's one of the most well-received entries in the series. I should give it a try.

I kind of lost interest with the N64 original because I found it slow and simplistic (respectfully). I shouldn't admit this, but Super Mario RPG absolutely spoiled me. So, switching to the tone and presentation of Paper Mario was jarring for me. Plus, Intelligent System games, while nicely written and well-localized, are verbose.

I've always heard good things about Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, but I haven't actually sat down with it. As the series has gone on, I feel like fans have gotten a bit worn out by Paper Mario, but I'm on the outside looking in. Fans would have to tell me how the series has progressed.

This is cool. Don't know why people have their panties in a wad over a mod they don't have the play. I love SPM, but this could be a cool way to revisit it in the future.
It differs from the other Paper Marios in that it has a better flow thanks to the absence of turn-based battles. I understand a mod like this one takes away A LOT of time, but changing the gameplay like this is not good.

They could have done something about the abomination that is called Paper Mario: Color Splash instead.

I know. I've played it. The point stands that no one is making you play it and the original game is still there

Super paper Mario is such a downgrade from the n64 original and the gcn title

I might actually be able to play this one day now
Super Paper Mario is such an upgrade in terms of story, character, lore, themes and love from the n64 original and the gcn title

I might actually NOT play this ever now

It's when the series crashed and burned, loved the two original but never got far in this flop

ACTUALLY, it's when the series risen and gleamed. Liked the two original, but LOVED this gem
Then after this you had sticker star and that was the death of this whole series

Wish they never went away from a winning formula
