A controller for your thoughts - win a free controller!

conbanner.jpg

It's around that time of the year I try to be a more productive person, and with that comes the question of where that productivity should be directed. Courtesy of @AKNES I have a controller to give away, with the winner being able to pick from 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C (Bluetooth or Wireless), GuliKit's ES Pro, Elves 2, or Elves 2 Pro, or EasySMX's D05. On top of this, the administration have also decided to give three lucky runner ups a year of GBAtemp patronage, complete with ad-free perks! So what am I asking of you for a chance to win any of these lovely things?

The criteria is simple. You'll need to have been a member before this thread went live. If you're reading this as a lurker, I encourage you to sign up and join in with the larger community. You might not be able to join this giveaway, but there'll be more down the line. For those already here though, you'll just need to reply to this thread, and your reply will need the following information:
  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to
  • Your favourite ROM hack
  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
If you can manage that much, you'll have your shot at the prizes! It might all seem a bit random, but it's handy to check in every so often to see where interests currently lie. If we see there's big interest in a given game, we might go more out of our way to post smaller updates or trailers as they release. If a ROM hack has a bunch of recommendations, we might take a bit of time to feature or review it. It's all good to know.

You'll have a week to enter, with entries closing Friday the 27th of March at 8pm in the UK. I'll pop a threadmark down to make it clear where the cut-off is, and announce the winners on Sunday the 29th of March. All winners will be both tagged and DM'd, so feel free to turn off notifications for this post after putting your reply down.

A big thanks to @AKNES for supplying the choice of controller for giveaway. If you're interested in joining their Discord community where they run their own giveaways alongside providing customer support for the various things they sell, you can find a link below.

1. Slay the Spire 2, though I mostly look forward to play Resident Evil 9 right now.

2. Difficult, especially in the last 2 years there were so many great Pokemon Rom Hacks going around, if I had to pick it would probably be Pokemon Seaglass or Crystal Advance Redux.
Other than that I would probably pick CTGP and the expansions for the Mario Kart games.

3. This monster of a Taiko Drum, wish I had a dedicated spot for all my arcade stuff instead of having to set everything up

3. AYN Thor has sweeped everything post-Steam-deck in my head. Hopefully the LineageOS build for it turns out good, but i'd also take full linux running on it, with KDE Plasma...
Yeah, I also love my Ayn Thor just so much. For me it is the best Handheld device since the Steamdeck and its power and batterylife certainly makes it the best Handheld for emulation. It is just crazy to me how much it offers in contrast to the Switch 2.

1. Upcoming Game:
Samurai Pizza Cats (on Steam)

2. Favorite ROM Hack:
Goldeneye 007: Everything Unlocked (on Nintendo 64)

3. A cool bit of gaming tech:
My stepdad is an engineer at Nvidia Labs here in oregon, and he gave me an engineering sample card of a GTS 450, but with the internal name (GF106) as the card's identifier instead of the retail name. As a result of this, you cannot install the graphics drivers my normal means and have to install manually through device manager. I keep the card around because it's a cool talking piece, and it still has the engineering tag on it.

Oooh, back to giveaways are we? I am happy. Well, let's get down to brass tacks.

1.) My most anticipated upcoming game is Honkai: Nexus Anima.

2.) My favorite ROM hack has got to be Quest 64 Hard Mode by Landmine36 and Rainchus. I've already played it 6 times.

3.) I have a Miyoo Mini+ with OnionOS lying around, and I'm really getting the itch lately to power it back up and play some Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories hacks for old times sake.

Good luck to everyone!

  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, for my Switch console.
Seeing this as the definitive Castlevania return for a Nintendo console.

  • Your favourite ROM hack
Golden Yoshi's "Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island 2+2", for the SNES.
As a fan of Yoshi's Island for the SNES and being that console my all-time favorite, this ROM hack is a must.

I have a PS1/PS2 memory card adapter for the PS3, that you can also use on a PC.
This neat device allowed me to continue playing on my PS One console after having emulated the same game on my PC.

I have a GameBoy Camera that accompanies my GameBoy Color, very nice device. (Sadly, don't have a GameBoy Printer, just yet).

Crawling out of my lurker cave to reply xD
I am very exited for the new tomodachi life since I have a lot going on atm and I really need a chill game that's not giving me a billion side quests.

My favorite rom hack is The Legend of Zelda: The Missing Link. An Ocarina of Time tom hack. I liked the dark tone of the game.

I am currently amazed by the ring fit ring. It's just such a simple piece of hardware that works so well for it's intended usecase!

This one's easy for me!

Upcoming game has got to be palworld 1.0, although I dread all the broken mods I've grown accustomed to using.

Favourite ROM hack is definitely Pokemon crystal clear. It's open world gen 2 Pokemon, what's not to love?

A cool bit of gaming tech I own is the Green Game Boy Micro. That things super rare these days so I'm glad mine is in perfect condition!

3. I still have the Playstation TV, y'know the console that let you play Vita, PSP and a whole bunch on TV.
The picture quality is ass on a 4k TV, so I haven't use it in years. I had a blast with it though, back in the days.

If you do ever get a GB Printer, look for modern paper replacements as there's a chance the thermal paper has started wearing out.

At least mine wasn't printing well the last time I tried over a decade ago and I suspect that was the issue, although I haven't bothered trying said alternatives to verify.

If you have a way to dump the SRAM, there is also software to extract the GB Camera's photos, in theory you could then use a modern printer with label paper to get a similar effect.

How be life y'all?
Not sure about y'all, but my girlfriend is keen on checking out Hozy, and I'm interested in Sledding Game and Valor Mortis!
Haven't touched ROM hacks since the Super Mario 64 Kaizo mods were coming out, but I'd probably say Pikmin 1^2 or any of Pikhackers stuff!
Honestly my favorite piece of tech is probably still my ASCII GameCube controller, and the RE Chainsaw GC controller(if I had one...).

That's a hard one because there really isn't a game that I'm looking forward to atm.

Your favorite ROM hack

I'd say right now it would be Animal Crossing Deluxe. (Although Pokemon Quetzal deserves an honorable mention)

A cool gaming tech I recently got and been having a lot of fun with is the Ds Pico.

I've been looking forward to Splatoon Raiders for the Switch 2!
I haven't looked at a lot of ROM hacks, but Pokémon R.O.W.E is my current favourite.
And I'm interested in the variations of the Nintendo DSi, like the Pokémon World Tournament one, and the classroom DSi! Also interested in how the GBA Pokémon games used to link up with the GameCube games.

Thank you AKNES and Scarlet for hosting the give-away!
