Now-removed event page suggests new battle mode coming to Mario Kart World

The beginning of the year is a fun time for Nintendo fans, with Pokemon Day coming at the end of February, and Mario Day following shortly after. This year, Nintendo are adding a few new titles to their Nintendo Switch Online service, including Mario vs Donkey Kong on the GBA and Mario Tennis for the Virtual Boy. Beyond this there's savings to be had for various Mario titles on the eShop and a sweepstakes to win a trip to the Super Nintendo World theme park. The real star of the show however is the three weeks of tournaments coming to Mario Kart World, but not for the reason you might expect.

The current menu can be seen on the left, and the one shown on the tournament page can be seen on the right.
In the screenshots showing the ruleset, eagle-eyed fans noticed a new icon on the Battle Mode menu. Now showing a Bob-omb where it previously only had a coin and a balloon, it's speculated fan-favourite Bob-Omb Blast might be coming to the World after debuting in Double Dash and returning in 8 Deluxe. At the time of writing we've had no official confirmation, but the page that originally listed these images has since been removed. Those interested can still find them on the Wayback Machine.

Good to see Nintendo's finally improving MKW and I really hope there'll be many as MKW has lots of potential.
Potential??? 🤣 Mario Kart World was the best-selling Switch 2 game of 2025, moving over 14 million units worldwide by year-end. It also became the fastest-selling game in the franchise's history. MKW does not need improvement. It will get it, and DLC too. But your comment implies there was somethign wrong with it. If so, Nintendo should release all of its games with such issues!

MKW just need 11 years on content coming to it like its brother, otherwise it's a pretty good game

Yeah if you compare day 1 MK8 to Day 1 MKW its rather standout how light on content 8 was lol
That's what baffles me sometimes about people comparing MKW to MK8DX, but the base MK8, for the WiiU, was barely having content, just the standard number of 32 tracks

Heck, it didn't even have a proper battle mode with dedicated battle tracks

8 was light on content, but the fact it was traditional races it's what kept me playing regardless of new content on the Wii U.

Highway races aren't really fun, maybe for a NFSU game maybe.

Why wasn’t this available at launch?
It probably wasn't finished is probably the real answer.
Nintendo sat on the Switch 2 so long, and to their credit, really did well on the hardware and logistics side. I think it shows considering their success despite the tariff bullshit coming at the worst time.
However, with software, I feel like they were somehow caught with their pants down.

I would love it if they had battle mode merged in the main campaign somehow, who needs intermission tracks when you can instead have mario kart world war.
I'd want mario karty too, doesn't anyone else? More minigame modes overall would do a lot to spruce up the open world concept, give
Take pages from diddy kong racing too, ooooh, and crash team racing! Heck, mario party advance has excellent dialogue, give us stories too.
