For those that never played it, it is to me one of the best rpgs of all time but never left the Sega Saturn. It was also very rare because it was one of the last 4 Saturn games to come to America. I'm sure some got to play it on an emulator in which you still can, but this is a native PC port.

I might have the craziest history with this game of anybody. I bought it when it was new in Toys R Us for $50, but I was only 14ish at the time and couldn't get in to it so I sold it to a pawn shop for only $10. Years later it started blowing up on Ebay worth hundreds and I was depressed but one day when I had enough money I bought it for I think it was $200 something like that. I beat the game and sold it for around $280. Years later I would go to pawn shops and Goodwills to look for rare games and in Goodwill they had this massive collection of Saturn games that I guess someone had donated for free, and one of the games was Panzer Dragoon Saga for $3! It was missing a sleeve but I still sold it for $300 on Ebay. Wish I could have kept it but needed to make a car payment. Ever since then I just play it on emulators, but I look forward to the re-comp.

Now you'll be lucky to get the original game for $1,000.

I wonder if lazy SEGA will finally use this to remake the game for modern systems ?

They lost the source code, or at least that's their excuse. Now that the homebrew community made the job for them i wonder what will be their excuse.

I might finally get round to finishing the game because I think like most Brits I only ever finished the first disc. Why you ask well by the time the game came out the Saturn was already dead here and the Official UK Saturn Magazine give the entire first disc away for free.

Question is, would you want Sega to remake this considering they managed to mess up Sonic Origins and HotD2: Remake?

It may be better to just leave it to fans working on their own.

Technically Sega had nothing to do with the HotD2 Remake as it was developed by Forever Entertainment and published by MegaPixel Studio and funded by TA Publishing.

HOTD2 wasn't developed by SEGA. But it should have been since they have the source code for HOTD2.

The first game it made sense to remake, because the source code for the first game was lost.

What a great time for video game enthusiasts. Dreamcast ports, fan translations, decomps and recomps.

I'm surprised we're already in recomp territory for Saturn games to begin with. Naturally, I'm hoping for other exclusives to make their way over, but you can't ask for a better first recomp project than Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Didn't know that/surprised by HotD2:Remake, that might actually explain some things.

Still, I had heard with Origins that the devs weren't allowed to delay and somehow Sega introduced bugs which wasn't present in the build given to them.

From what I heard they lost the coding to it, and that's why they never remade it. So they'd have to start from scratch and make a brand new game. They probably don't think there'd be enough sales. Plus I'm not even sure Sega has the rights to Panzer Dragoon anymore at all as Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 remakes (1 is out 2 not yet) are not even made by Sega at all. So maybe another company besides Sega would tackle a complete from scratch remake, but no one has yet.

Dinosaur Planet a N64 game that got turned into Star Fox Adventures recomp, and speaking of Star Fox Star Fox 64 native for PC port, Banjo Kazooie recomp, Sonic Unleashed, and a bunch of others in the works. Recomps are really awesome right now.

This was the first RPG I ever beat... Since then I have completed a couple of Mario RPGs and nothing else. To me it usually gets too monotonous when they go on for too long, and in a lot of them you're just watching the game play itself I feel like, in the games mentioned at least you are doing things beside choosing "attack/magic/flee/whatever". Panzer Dragoon Saga is the best RPG ever made IMO.

Really cool that someone is doing this, hopefully it can then be ported to consoles.

its still a SEGA IP, they just licensed it AFAIK.

Well after 3 decades i think we never going to have a official remake. This project is the best we will have.

It is indeed surprising to hear of a Saturn game getting that treatment, though. I thought Saturn emulation hadn't even been perfected yet.

I'd like to know more details. Does this mean they actually know the devchain that the original programmers used?

Does the license allows commercial use?

This is the universe making fun of me. I had never heard of this game until a few days ago, when I decided to explore the Saturn catalog. I just finished disk 2 last night, and now I learn it's getting a recomp!?

I don't think it makes a huge difference although there might be some higher resolutions to choose from on the Recomp, but it might not be out soon. Plus you've got save states from the emulator I guess if needed.
