nullDC4Wii
by BenoitAdam (Xale00)
https://github.com/BenoitAdam94/nullDC4Wii

After an effort made in january 2026 by Xale00, reaching out via email to the first developer that made an attempt on porting nullDC to the Wii console, the source code to nullDCe was published.

Based on the code foundation of nullDC (PC), and adapted to Wii by skmp, where nullDC4Wii was forked from:
https://github.com/skmp/nullDCe

Controller support:
  • Gamecube controller.
  • Wiimote.
  • Wii Classic Controller. (since 0.47, but correctly functional between 0.49/0.51)
  • Wii U Pro Controller. (since 0.49, but correctly functional since 0.51)
  • Wii U Pro Gamepad. (since 0.48)
  • Sony SixAxis / DualShock 3. (since 0.58)

Notes for nullDC4Wii:
  • App folder: root://apps/nullDC4Wii/
  • BIOS folder:
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/dc_boot.bin
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/dc_flash.bin
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/fsca-table.bin (included)
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/dc_flash_wb.bin (optional, this is the dc_flash saved user data)
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/.bin (optional)
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/dc_nvmem.bin (optional)
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/vmu_default.bin (optional)
    • root://nullDC4Wii/data/IP.bin (optional, needed for elf/bin files)
  • Games folder:
    • SD card: root://discs
    • USB drive: root://dreamcast
    • Games can be GDI (ideal) / CDI (since 0.28) / ISO / NRG / MDS. Also, CUE / BIN / ELF, but you need IP.bin/syscalls.bin (take IP.TMPL from bootdreams and rename it IP.bin).
  • Saves folder: root://nullDC4Wii/
    • vmu_save_A1, vmu_save_A2 (Controller 1, Slot A/B)
    • vmu_save_B1, vmu_save_B2 (Controller 2, Slot A/B)
    • vmu_save_C1, vmu_save_C2 (Controller 3, Slot A/B)
    • vmu_save_D1, vmu_save_D2 (Controller 4, Slot A/B)
Recommended BIOS: Dreamcast USA (most compatible).
dc_flash.bin = CRC32 should be C611B498
dc_boot.bin = CRC32 should be 89F2B1A1

Controls - in-game:
  • Minus and Plus (Select and Start) = exit game back to loader

Compatibility list:
Tested build = 0.61.
  • Daytona USA 2001 (USA). Works with GDI, not CDI. Fast menus, Medium speed (27-29 fps) races, some messed up graphics in menus.
  • Giga Wing (USA). Works with GDI, not CDI. Fast speed, can't see enemies or menus.
  • Giga Wing 2 (USA) (CDI). Medium speed.
  • Gunbird 2 (USA) (CDI). Slow to Medium speed gameplay, though it randomly drops at less than half. Visually, same case as Nanatsu no Hikan (Japan), this game runs on a compressed portion on the left side of the screen, but you can fix it with CANVAS WIDTH set to 320.
  • Mars Matrix (USA) (CDI). Fast speed in main menu, slows to 1 fps when you try to enter a game.
  • Resident Evil Code Veronica X (Japan). Medium speed, many graphical errors.
  • Sega Tetris (Japan). Fast to medium speed gameplay and menus. The game is heavy on Japanese text.
  • Street Fighter Zero 3 - Saikyo-ryu Dojo for Matching Service (Japan) (GDI). Fast speed with TEXTURE CACHE set to NORMAL or less, but you can't see menus. Slow speed with TEXTURE CACHE set to QUALITY, but you can see menus now.
  • Tetris 4D (Japan). Full speed.

Tested build = 0.60.
  • Bomberman Online (USA) (CDI). 2-3 fps more
  • Cannon Spike (USA) (CDI). 7-11 fps more
  • Capcom vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000 PRO (Japan) (GDI). While it incorrectly caps fights at 50 fps, surprisingly, this is the closest to a game at full speed I have seen, hovering between 43-50 fps.
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2 - Millionaire Fighting 2001 (Japan) (CDI). 1-2 fps more. Speed improves depending on the fight arena.
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - New Age of Heroes (USA) (CDI). Capped at 50 fps, the game runs at 42-50 fps depending on the fight arena.
  • Mortal Kombat Gold (USA) (CDI). FMVs are completely black and slow to skip. No speed change.
  • Nanatsu no Hikan (Japan) (GDI). This game runs on a compressed portion on the left side of the screen. 30 fps game, seems to runs at full speed.
  • Super Street Fighter II X for Matching Service (Japan) (CDI). No speed change.
  • Virtua Tennis (USA) (CDI). Seems to be the same speed.
  • Volgarr (CDI). This game stopped booting.

Tested build = 0.54.
  • Bomberman Online (USA) (CDI). Medium speed, mostly normal graphics and some background glitches. The minimum for TEXTURE CACHE needs to be FAST, NORMAL is recommended.
  • Capcom vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000 PRO (Japan) (GDI). Very slow, mostly normal graphics.
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2 - Millionaire Fighting 2001 (Japan) (CDI). Very slow, scrambled 2D sprites.
  • Capcom Taisen Fan Disc (Japan). Very slow, mostly normal graphics.
  • ChuChu Rocket (USA) (CDI). Fast speed, mostly normal graphics.
  • Dolphin Blue (GDI). Medium speed, mostly normal graphics, sprites can have missing parts. The minimum for TEXTURE CACHE needs to be FAST,
  • House of the Dead 2 (USA) (CDI). Not working, controller doesn't respond, can't go past save data screen.
  • Intrepid Izzy (USA) (CDI). Not running, doesn't go past the SEGA boot screen.
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - New Age of Heroes (USA) (CDI). Very Slow, mostly normal graphics.
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Abyss (USA) (CDI). Very Slow, mostly normal graphics.
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Insanity Remix (USA) (CDI). Not running, goes to bios.
  • Mortal Kombat Gold (USA) (CDI). FMVs are completely black and slow to skip, but gameplay is Medium speed.
  • Nanatsu no Hikan (Japan) (GDI). Medium speed, mostly normal graphics. This game runs on a compressed portion on the left side of the screen.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Typing Project Advanced (Japan) (CDI). Not running, locks the emulator.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Typing Project E (Japan) (CDI). Not running, locks the emulator.
  • Pen Pen TriIcelon (Japan) (CDI). Medium speed, mostly normal graphics.
  • REZ (PAL) (GDI). Not running, locks the emulator with a loud buzzing.
  • Street Fighter III Offline Edition (USA) (CDI). Slow speed, scrambled 2D sprites. To fix missing elements and scrambled 2D sprites, you need TEXTURE CACHE set to QUALITY.
  • Super Street Fighter II X for Matching Service (Japan) (CDI). Mostly normal graphics and some background glitches. For Medium/Fast Speed gameplay (with very glitchy backgrounds) set TEXTURE CACHE to VERY_FAST. For Medium/Slow speed gameplay (with semi-decent backgrounds) set TEXTURE CACHE to FAST. Always set BLEND MODE to OFF, helps some backgrounds too. Dhalsim stage (India) runs incredibly slow, fastest is E. Honda (Japan).
  • Virtua Tennis (USA) (CDI). Medium speed, mostly normal graphics and some 3D glitches.
  • Volgarr (CDI). Fast speed, mostly normal graphics.
Tested build = 0.45.
  • REZ (PAL) (CDI). Not running, locks the emulator.
  • REZ (NTSC-PAL) (CDI). Not running, goes to bios.

Always used GRAPHICS LOW, RATIO ORIGINAL, ACCURACY FAST. 2D FRAMEBUFFER could be NO or YES, but didn't make any difference.

I finished Mortal Kombat Gold (USA) (0.50 / 0.51).

QoL suggestions for nullDC4Wii:

- Exit to loader with Home and Plus buttons. Disable the combo for any controllers other than number 1.
- Option to pick any Dreamcast BIOS file.
- Controller buttons remapping.
- A toggle to make the right analog stick act as buttons X (Left) - Y (Up) - A (Down) - B (Right). This is useful for twin stick shooters that use the diamond button layout for gameplay, like: Xeno Crisis, Bangai-O, Zero Gunner 2 (it uses it for ship rotation), QuakeDC port and Quake III Arena (these last two use it for Dual Stick-like movement).

Known bugs:
- Date and BIOS settings are not saved.
- Current 4:3 implementation creates the aspect ratio, but graphics are still seen outside the border, like a forced Widescreen.
- SixAxis / DualShock 3 issue: left stick has the Y axis inverted, up is down, and down is up.

Great work, please keep it up! Spent a little time testing out various games today - see below for my results. All were tested on original hardware using the latest alpha 0.06 build unless stated otherwise. They were only tested to the point a little after the menu to see if they were playable and all were in GDI format. I'll try the more playable ones on vWii later. Hope this is helpful.

Also a couple of observations: I didn't have sound on any games for some reason when using OG Wii. It seemed any time I ran into a crash, the program refused to boot on the next attempt or three. Probably crashed about 50 times total today :rofl2:

Playable:
Rayman 2: The Great Escape - No Sound and some graphics/control issues. This one works a LOT better than the other games tested.
Zombie Revenge - No Sound, and lot of graphical issues. Very playable.

Runs but Generally Unplayable:

D2 - No sound, graphical issues. Only tried disc 1 and it crashed during the opening cutscene.
Daytona USA (Arcade colors hack) - Some garbled graphics and no sound. Accelerate button doesn't work :(
Bangai-o (Brightness Fix hack) - This was tested using the overclock vWii. Missing graphics and no sound. Only takes up the top quarter of the screen.
Blue Stinger - Graphical defects, no sound - crashed after opening cutscene.
Gunbird 2 - Missing graphics and also no sound. Only takes up the top quarter of the screen.
Puyo Puyo! DA (English patched) - The timing indicators don't appear on screen and you lose immediately. However, other than that the graphics and framerate are the best seen so far.

Doesn't Run or Crashes on Game Menu:

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare - Black screen / crash
Armada - Black screen / crash
Beserk - Black screen
Birdcage of Horror discs 1-6: crashes on startup screen (was able to advance to the movie player using the overclock forwarder on vWii but it still crashes there)
Cannon Spike - Crashes on menu
Cool Cool Town - black screen / crash
Dynamite Cop - Black screen
Evil Dead: Hail to the King - Black screen
Evil Twin: Cyprien's Chronicles - Black screen
Heavy Metal: Geomatrix - Black screen
Kenju - Black screen
Kiss Psycho Circus - Black Screen / Crash
Mortal Kombat Gold - Black Screen
Nakoruru - The Gift She gave me (English Patched Bonus disc) - Crashes on menu
Napple Tale - Arsi in Daydream (English Patched) - Black screen
Phantasy Star Online - Black Screen
Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights - Green screen then crashes
Rent a Hero No 1 (english patched) - Black screen
Resident Evil 2 - Black screen
Resident Evil 3 - Black screen
Run-Dim as Black Soul - Black screen / Crash
Skies of Arcadia - Black screen
Sonic Shuffle - Black Screen
Elemental Gimmick Gear (EGG) - Crashes on opening cutscene
Illbleed - Black Screen
LOL: Lack of Love - Black screen
Macross M3: Black screen
Omikron: The Lost Soul - Black screen
Sakura Wars Columns 2 (english patched) - Black screen
The Typing of the Dead - Black screen
Virtua Cop 2 - Black screen
Spawn: In Demon's Hand - Can't progress past menu
Spider-Man - Black screen / Crash
The Lost Golumn (English patched) - Black screen
The Ring: Terror's Realm - Black screen
Virtua Fighter 3b - Black screen

amazing !

If you can report compatiblity here, that's be wonderfull (you need to sign in)

https://wiibrew.org/wiki/NullDC4Wii/Compatibility

EDIT : sound isn't implented now. I have some interesting files but it still need work. I hope future version will have some stuff.

Also some game doesn't run because sound isn't fully implemented (probably all the one that have black screen at start)

Hello everyone ^^,

I think that sound is important for the Dreamcast... (Sega Saturn's audio chip used as a GPU but Sega surely did it for the Dreamcast...).

Have a good day ^^.

I'm working on lot of stuff, I think audio could be implemented but what i'm doing here is AI magic basically.

thus, I fear that low FPS may result in audio sutters for now.

I need to make a frame skipping stuff, this will help when fps suddenly drops

oh, and choosing 4/3 and fullscreen is coming to the emulator soon, at least that's done.

aha too soon, was waiting for version 0.04 tu publish here

New version : 0.04

Please help me improve compatibility guide, this will help me (and other) a lot even if it's an alpha state

EDIT : DONT ASK ME ABOUT WII U

Been wanting to take my girlfriend to Vancouver for a weekend getaway but kept putting it off due to costs. Started playing online to build the extra cash but hit a brutal losing streak that nearly wiped me out. Felt pretty stupid honestly. On my very last deposit I went slightly bigger and finally hit a feature that just kept retriggering like crazy. The payout covered the whole trip with nice dinners included. Started using jackbit casino login https://jackbitcasino.site/ after a coworker mentioned their fast withdrawals for Canadian players. Made the weekend special after all.

This is incredible news for the Wii homebrew scene! Huge thanks to Xale00 and BenoitAdam94 for tracking down the source and getting this moving. Even in alpha, seeing Dreamcast emulation on the Wii is like a dream come true. I’ll definitely help out with the compatibility guide as I test a few titles let's see how far we can push this hardware!

thank

BenoitAdam94 is me
Currently i'm the only dev on it (with claude AI)

Some people on discord (including original author) gives me some clues sometimes

Please test non-tested games before (in the compatibility wiki)

Broken games have probably the same source of problem for now : the non-implementation of AICA/ARM7. When Chuchu becomes runnable, it will be the signal to re-test broken games.
