I have been pretty disgusted with what a few people in the Trump admin have been saying about Pretti carrying

I just want to clarify that in this instance I was speaking very broadly and not specifically referring to GBAtemp users, but the conservative sphere in general.

5 against 1? what was the struggle?

He was doing a pretty good job of resisting. And until about 1.5 seconds before the shooting started, he had a gun on his person that had been noticed and "Gun! Gun! Gun!" was all they had in their minds. I have watched the video a bunch and that cop who takes the gun off Pretti just withdraws from the kerfuffle. I don't hear him calling out "got it!" Or anything like that, he just runs away with it. So the others still trying to restrain Pretti probably thought he still had the gun.

So the question is: Do you still support the administration you voted for, and believe everything they are telling you is the truth?

I've never claimed to be a Trumper and don't consider myself one. Nor am I a Republican. But I still prefer Trump over the alternatives the Democrats have nominated to run against him.

Remember in '24 and '25 when you guys were conceding that Biden sucked but was better than the alternative? That's me, but flip the pancake.

I don't remember anyone conceding that Biden sucked. Most people conceded that he was old and maybe a weak candidate because of that. He was doing extremely well at recovering the economy which was in tatters after Trump V1.0.

Biden wasn't starting new wars.
He wasn't apprehending citizens on the street in unmarked cars with masked goons.
He wasn't threatening to take over Venezuela/Canada/Iceland.... I mean Greenland.
He wasn't turning all allies against the US.
He wasn't hugely taxing the citizens with tariffs.
He wasn't directly implicated in a pedophile ring.

Please don't assert that we thought Biden sucked.

Especially after his first term, there's no logistical reason to differentiate a 2024 Trump voter from the MAGA base and what they stand for as a whole. Especially when you consider remarks like "migrants are eating pets" we're not deal breakers.

Like for real it's a number of moral and intellectual compromises a 2024 Trump voter had to make, and making said compromises make you no better than the Nazis they stood by in the Charlottesville 2017 unite the right rally.

And I know, we have that one idiot mod who just refers to those people as larping.

I have been pretty disgusted with what a few people in the Trump admin have been saying about Pretti carrying, but it hasn't changed my mind about what happened or why. Theyre just trying to deflect blame i.e. politics. Pretti carrying a concealed firearm was only a component of the whole reason he's dead now. The most significant component is that while carrying a gun, he very unwisely chose to get in a physical altercation with cops. That's about the stupidest fucking thing any firearm owner can do. Carrying a concealed weapon requires a heightened level of responsibility to remain courteous, yielding, and exercise self-discipline to remain law-abiding. Many in ccw discussion and training environments talk about being "the quiet man" or "the grey man" when carrying, i.e. never stand out, never stir trouble. Pretti's behavior was the opposite.

Now, before someone comes back with "but he didn't deserve to die for what he did" - in this case I absolutely agree. He didn't deserve it. But he risked it. This is a prima facie case of police error. I don't think all those cops physically struggling with Pretti were aware that one of their group had already disarmed him when the shooting started, but it doesn't matter. They fucked up. But Pretti fucked up too. If you carry a concealed weapon, don't interject yourself into a physical altercation with cops. The outcome if you do will be of your own making.
Just to get this straight:

1) We accept he didn't deserve to be shot
2) We accept that he was shot anyway because ICE "fucked up"
3) ICE's fuckup and his resulting death are his own fault.

I disagree with 3). If he had been brandishing the gun (as the claims from the government you dismiss as "politics" say) then yeah, he would have created the situation that led to his death.

But the existence of the gun isn't what caused ICE to lose control of the situation. They escalated and created such a chaotic fight that they couldn't tell what was going on. The gun had already been removed from him, which in a normal country should have been enough to guarantee that nobody died.

He died anyway because ICE dogpiled him for no reason, failed to communicate that he had been disarmed, and then shot him. The gun didn't cause any of that to happen. ICE being aggressive and poorly trained did, and that's the charitable interpretation.

I also disagree with the idea that he chose to get in a physical altercation. Remind me who made contact?

He also conveniently didn't mention that IMMEDIATELY after the murder, they blatantly lied over and over until the video footage proved them to be liars.

So he's against a person being murdered while being pinned on the ground. But mute on his own government lying brazenly to his face.

"Don't yell at me, I'll commit murder!"

Just to note, this is a threat of violence, which is yet another law in MN being broken by ICE......

The "resisting" was simply a bodily reaction to the pepper spray, which is obvious from the video.

And also worth noting only 20% of Americans think that his death was justified too.

I know I'm replying to this twice, but this lame weak-ass cop-out irks me.

This 'I'm not a Trumper' is complete horse shit. It's a weak attempt to distance yourself from the responsibility of your vote. Until you come to the realization that this is the biggest shit-show of an administration and regret your vote, you're a Trumper.

/I don't remember anyone conceding that Biden sucked.

I was paraphrasing. Maybe nobody used that word, but there were plenty of posts here admitting that Biden wasn't their favored candidate (but he was still preferable to Trump), that Biden had done well in some aspects but poorly in others (but he was still preferable to Trump), and/or the occasional "I'm not a Democrat, I'm a leftist! Why do you think I care about any Democrat??" post.

Considering how you guys sometimes criticize me over "semantics" when I point out someone's erroneous assertion(s) though, I guess turnabout is fair play. Fine, nobody said Biden "sucked." But Biden has been frequently criticized here as less than perfect.

I thought he was an absolute travesty, and a lot of what you guys are grinding your teeth about now is the cleanup effort.

There's a huge difference between saying someone sucked vs saying someone isn't the best candidate due to age. It's not semantics, you're just trying to bring him down to the shitty level of Trump

Completely ignoring the freefall of an economy which was given to him, which he recovered from. He did exactly what he had to do, and now Trump is fucking it up AGAIN.

I get it, you're too proud to admit you made a mistake, and you keep on going for broke. It's an unhealthy mindset. There's still about 30% of his supporters who are in the same boat.

"The cleanup" LOL there was nothing to cleanup, he left an immaculate economy and the "financially savvy" candidate brought recession and unemployment

I don't think Biden was perfect. I also don't think Trump is perfect. There we go, both sides are basically the same and now we don't have to think about this too hard.

...

So, anyway, back to the actual current situation. This is such an unjustified shooting that even Trump is walking back some of the comments made about Pretti. I don't know if I've ever heard him do something like that, even if it's just in the weakest possible form by saying he's not aware of what his administration are saying.

I feel like this thread has been a lot quieter than with the last shooting. Its just that indefensible. The closest we've gotten is "ICE shouldn't have shot him but it's still his fault", which isn't really a defence even taken at face value. Nothing from Valwinz, Heavy hasn't made another alt. This is the closest we'll ever come to agreeing on something. Hopefully.

When the murdered person was a nurse who helps veterans, is a fan of the 2nd amendment, and was protecting a woman being assaulted, it's basically impossible. Not that they didn't try at the start as hard as they could, thus, the walk back now.

The best they've got now is saying he shouldn't have gotten involved when he had a gun. Those people are bootlickers. Just like this guy has become:
