THREAD:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rock Band, Just Dance and Guitar Hero has downloadable songs that you were able to buy and download when the Wii Shop Channel was up. Back in the day, people would install a small WAD, and then they could get whatever song they wanted for free. Since the Wii Shop Channel closed, this is no longer possible. There is a new way to install song DLC, follow this tutorial to do so.

The process to do this is different from installing a WiiWare or Virtual Console WAD. Instead of installing the WAD to your Wii (which will not work), we will use a tool called wad2bin that will convert the WAD to a format you can install directly on your SD Card. Please follow these instructions carefully and then you can use the DLC. It’s a long process, but it’s fun.

Also, if you are wanting to get DLC working with Rock Band 3, you can also install Rock Band 2 DLC for use with that game.

What you need
Instructions

Section 1: Preparing

1. Get the WADs that you want in the folder these instructions are enclosed in.
a. “Big WADs” contain WADs with all the DLC, but they are large. For Rock Band, these come in multiple parts. If you want to use the big WADs, make sure you have enough storage space on your SD Card.
b. “Split WADs” contain WADs with individual songs. This is good because you can pick and choose what WADs you want to install.
2. Copy xyzzy-mod to the apps folder of your SD Card (and Wii Mod Lite if you don’t have it already).
3. Launch xyzzy-mod from the Homebrew Channel, and run it to dump some keys. These are unique keys that are required in order to use wad2bin.
a. This only needs to be done once, if you want to install more WADs later, you don’t need to run the tool again.

Section 2: Patching IOS
  • If you load your game you want to use DLC with using the Disc Channel, follow the steps in Section 2.1.
  • If you load your game you want to use DLC with using a USB Loader, follow https://wii.guide/cios to install the optimal cIOS if you haven’t already.
Section 2.1: Patching IOS for Use with the Disc Channel

You do not need to do this if you’re using a USB Loader. For each IOS listed here (IOS37, IOS56, and IOS57), if you patched them once you don’t need to patch them again.

1. Launch Wii Mod Lite from the Homebrew Channel.
2. Go to the IOSs menu.
3. Select the IOS corresponding to your game.
a. If you want to use DLC with Rock Band 2, select IOS37.
b. If you want to use DLC with Rock Band 3, Just Dance 2-4 or Guitar Hero, select IOS56.
c. If you want to use DLC with Just Dance 2014-2015, select IOS57.
i. Just Dance 2014-2015 is known to have some strange issues where the DLC doesn’t work. We have managed to get it to work on USB Loaders.
4. Press the A Button.
5. Select Install IOS.
6. Select the revision corresponding to your IOS.
a. If you selected IOS37, select 5663.
b. If you selected IOS56, select 5662.
c. If you selected IOS57, select 5919.
7. Press the A Button twice.
8. Press Right on the +Control Pad.
9. Press Down on the +Control Pad.
10. Press Right on the +Control Pad again.
11. Press the A Button.
12. Select Download IOS from NUS.
13. Wait for it to finish. When it’s done, after a few seconds you will be sent to the previous menu.
a. If you get a screen saying “Exception DSI Occurred!”, try this process again.
14. Exit Wii Mod Lite by pressing the HOME Button.

Section 3: Making the WADs

This section needs to be followed for every time you want to install songs.

1. Insert your SD Card to your computer.
2. Open wad2bin.
3. To the right of “Path to SD root”, select the “...” button and set it to the root of your SD Card.
4. To the right of “Path to keys file”, select the “...” button and select the keys.txt file in the root of your SD Card that xyzzy-mod made.
5. To the right of “Path to cert file”, select the “...” button and select the device.cert file in the root of your SD Card that xyzzy-mod made.
6. Fill in the title ID corresponding to your game.
a. Games
i. Just Dance 2 - 00010000534432
ii. Just Dance 3 - 00010000534A44
iii. Just Dance 4 - 00010000534A58
iv. Just Dance 2014 - 00010000534A4F
v. Just Dance 2015 - 00010000534533
vi. Rock Band 2 - 00010000535A41
vii. Rock Band 3 - 00010000535A42
viii. The Beatles - Rock Band - 0001000052394A
ix. Green Day - Rock Band - 00010000535A41
x. Guitar Hero: World Tour - 00010000535841
xi. Guitar Hero 5 - 00010000535845
xii. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock - 00010000535849
b. Important
i. If you’re using the USA version of your game, type 45 at the end of the ID.
1. For example, Rock Band 3 would be 00010000535A4245.
ii. If you’re using the Europe version of your game, type 50 at the end of the ID.
1. For example, Rock Band 3 would be 00010000535A4250.
7. Only if using Rock Band 2, select the “Use nullkey” box.
8. Select “add wad” to install one WAD file.
a. Or, select “add folder” to install a folder of WADs.
9. Select “run”.
10. Make sure that it created a folder with .bin files in a subfolder of /private/wii/data/ on your SD Card. The private folder needs to be at the root of your SD Card.
11. Move the WAD file starting with “00010000” and ending with “bogus.wad” to a folder called “wad” in your SD Card.

Section 4 - Finalizing

This section needs to be followed for every time you want to install songs.

1. Launch Wii Mod Lite from the Homebrew Channel.
2. Go to the WAD Manager menu.
3. Select the folder on your SD Card called “wad”.
4. Highlight the WAD file starting with “00010000” and ending with “bogus.wad”.
5. Press the - Button.
6. Press the A Button, and then press it again when it prompts you to.
a. Ignore any errors.
7. Now in the menu where you were before to select WAD files, highlight the same WAD file again.
8. Press the A Button, and then press it again when it prompts you to.
a. Ignore any errors.
9. Load the game you made the DLC for and test it out. (If using Just Dance 2014 or Just Dance 2015 with a USB Loader, make sure you're using cIOS 249 installed with https://wii.guide/cios )

So USB loader gives me an error -1022 and says to try and enable AHBPROT

How do I enable that? I can't get an answer anywhere

What am I supposed to do if it keeps saying 'Scanning SD card for content'? popping up doing nothing and then popping up again in Just Dance 3

Here is what worked for me to get all DLC through GH Warriors Of Rock working...

Wii Guitar Hero DLC install steps...

This is only tested working through USB loaders,
using the actual disc(s) could work but not tested on my end.

This is tested working on NTSC (North America) original Wii with...
[SXEE52] Guitar Hero 5
[SXIE52] Guitar Hero - Warriors Of Rock

PAL machines and vWii may give different results!

This does not work for World Tour!! DLC will still be corrupted
if attempting to play DLC thorough GH World Tour. Howeverc GH5 &
GH WOR will see the WT DLC and play it as intended.

------------

Before installing any DLC, please delete both
Guitar Hero 5, Guitar Hero WOR save files from the Wii.

I do not know if the is absolutely necessary
but i think it gives the best chance for success.

You will need both GH5 and GH WOR games installed on USB.
Again, this may not be mandatory, it is possible WOR is the
only game you need installed for all DLC to show up but GH5
was used to bridge the DLC on my setup.

------------

1. On PC, run wad2bin and select your SD root path, then keys path,
then cert file path. Now type Parent TID 0001000053584545. Do not
forget to include the extra 45 for NA or 50 for PAL ^^^^^^^
Now click add wad and select Guitar Hero 5 DLC.wad for wherever
it is located on your PC, click run. When finished, place your
newly created dummy.wad into the "wad" folder and rename to
GH5 DLC.wad. Eject your SD PC and insert into the Wii. Using any
wad manager (I Used YAWM ModMii Edition), first uninstall, then
install the GH5 DLC.wad. Now open your preferred USB Loader ...
(I Used Wiiflow Lite) and boot Guitar Hero 5 for the 1st time.
Let it do it's thing and you should see pop-up it is scanning for
DLC. Now check for and hopefully find GH5 successfully imported
the GH5 DLC.

2. Back to PC, open wad2bin again and follow above procedure for
SD, keys, cert file. Enter Parent TID 0001000053584145. Click
add wad and find and select your Guitar Hero World Tour Import.wad.
Click run & when finished, open SD and rename the new dummy.wad to
GHWT Import DLC.wad and place in the wad folder on root of SD.

3. Staying at your PC, open wad2bin again, repeat necessary steps
and enter Parent TID 0001000053584945. Click add wad, find and
select your Guitar Hero Warriors Of Rock.wad, click run. When
finished, open SD and rename the new dummy.wad to GHWOR DLC.wad
and place in the wad folder on root of SD.

4. Again staying at your PC, open wad2bin, repeat necessary steps
and enter Parent TID 0001000053584545. Click add wad, find and
select your Guitar Hero Smash Hits.wad, click run. When finished,
open SD and rename the new dummy.wad to GHSH DLC.wad and place
in the wad folder on the root of SD.

5. Open wad2bin again, repeat necessary steps and enter Parent TID
0001000053584545. Click add wad, find and select your Guitar Hero
Band Hero.wad, click run. When finished, open SD and rename the new
dummy.wad to GHBH DLC.wad and place in the wad folder on SD.

6. Final step... open wad2bin, repeat necessary steps and enter
Parent TID 0001000053584545. Now CLICK/CHECK THE USE NULLKEY BOX!!!
Click add wad, find and select your Guitar Hero World Tour.wad,
click run. When finished, open SD and rename the new dummy.wad to
GHWT DLC.wad and place in the wad folder on the root of SD.

------------

Eject your SD from PC and insert into the WII. Now open your wad
manager and uninstall then install these wads...

GHWT Import DLC.wad
GHWOR DLC.wad
GHWT DLC.wad

Open your USB Loader and again boot Guitar Hero 5 for the 2nd time.
After scanning for DLC, click Options, then Rock Archive. SD should
show 460 DLC installed. Back out to main screen and select Quickplay
and you should have 552 songs available for GH5.

Now exit GH5 and boot Guitar Hero Warriors Of Rock for the 1st time and
create a profile. At main screen click Options, then Rock Archive...
SD should now show 606 DLC installed. Back out to main screen again and
select Quickplay and you should have 710 songs available with 16 of those
locked.

still doesnt work, i followed step for step.

Wrapping my brain around this.

Putting together a Wii Guitar Hero / Rock Band setup for my nephew. This setup is on WFL, and after testing multiple times, GX cannot accept responsibility for this.

I will not go into many details, GX simply does not work for this in my experience. I am referring to GX and WFL current/latest releases as of 2025.

Again, this is my experience and results working for me in NTSC region. PAL region could be different.

This is my 3rd trip down this brutal endeavor, i swore i would never travel but i am here again and made edits to this post.

---

My results for DLC...

Guitar Hero World Tour DLC simply does not work for me.

Guitar Hero World Tour (Import) DLC works!

Guitar Hero 5 DLC works!

Guitar Hero Warriors Of Rock DLC works!

Rock Band 3 DLC works!

Rock Band 2 DLC works!

---

There is no limitation of SD size, i am using 128gb SD for Rock Band 2 and all DLC is playable through Rock Band 3.

There is also no limitation of content, over 1000 DLC will been seen without any issues using Rock Band 3, using Rock Band 2 and Rock Band 3 DLC.

---

I am no expert but i suggest you remove your setting file(s) for WFL or GX before running this DLC setup.

Or you can completely start either loader from scratch and proceed to get best results. In my experience WFL and GX need their way. In other words, only use ONE.

The OP directions work, do not attempt to connect to store or any other silly business, simply follow the instructions.

Warriors of Rock will cover all GH DLC
Rock Band 3 will cover all RB DLC

Rock Band 2 DLC must have the "NULL" ticked AFTER you have given the appropriate hex code..

If you are getting the expired/ out of date error, remove your settings.

Last thing that has been said many times by others, the DLC must be on SD obviously, the Wii .wbfs must be on USB.
hi why does my wii say "sd card cannot be used" it happens for rock band 2 and 3

hi why does my wii say "sd card cannot be used" it happens for rock band 2 and 3
Yes, that error is a common pita. I'm not positive if you tried my instruction earlier in the thread for RB 2-3 but I suggest deleting your save file for both. I don't believe the RB2 dlc works for RB2 but both RB2 and RB3 dlc will work for RB3.

Folowed this instruction step by step and got 334 songs on SD in GH5 .... So i installed GHSH and BH DLCs and got 460 songs in GH5, but when i run GH WoR i got only 302 songs on SD in archive.... What should i do to get all 606 songs?
Ah, yes.... it looks like that WoR can't see GHWT and GH5 DLC songs, and see ONLY disc import songs and it's own DLC songs.

So, were you able to get the 606 DLC through Warriors with 710 songs overall?

It has been some months since doing this but IIRC, the World Tour DLC (not GHWT Import DLC) MUST be ticked with NULLKEY, it is crucial.

I have another Wii I can test this on if need be, but let me know when you read please.

WiiMart is working on a way to install dlc for games like this using their infrastructure

I haven't followed the thread this far, but I suppose no one has addressed this issue or offered to collaborate on it.

Does anyone have a detailed list of Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock DLC based on those extracted bin files from the big wad?

I would hate to have to figure it out on my own, wasting time putting each file into the game just to know which song each file belongs to.

Unfortunately, still have only 302 songs in archve. Still miss GH4 and GH5 DLCs in GH WoR, yet BOTH of those DLCs works fine in GH5 (i have 460 songs in archive there). And yes, of course i selected nullkey option for GH4 DLC.

I've been trying to get rb2 dlc on the wii for DAYS and i'm ready to bang my head. this is insane and i feel like im going in circles.

Are you using Rock Band 3 as your base game or Rock Band 2?

I was never successful getting RB2 dlc to work using RB2 as the base game, only RB3 works for dlc...(this includes all dlc for RB2 and RB3).

IIRC, the NULLKEY box must be ticked before selecting any dlc wad, i'll pull out my personal indtructions to verify .

I had the same issue using RB3 as the base game trying to make RB2DLC work and I gave up after banging my head against the wall. Pretty sure it sees the songs, but doesn't load them. It gives me an error message every time one of songs try to load and skips to the next one that I just live with.

For those who have PAL Wii. It looks like all (or most) RB2 Europe split WADs from MarioCube are broken and wad2bin cannot convert them to bin files. Split WADs for USA version of RB2 seem OK when converting them to bin. But! RockBand DLC depends on the region of the CONSOLE and not of the game. So using NTSC game (I used RB3) to play RB2 songs on PAL console is not the way, only errors appear in game... Maybe changing region of console will help? I don't know:( And btw RB3 split WADs for Europe work good.

Also a small question: is it normal that I got no audio preview of DLC songs installed on SD in GH WOR?

I had exactly same problem. But finally! Today I solved it.

Turned out the reason was BAD ROM image of Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock NTSC game. Once I installed good rom image of GH WOR NTSC everything worked fine and now I have all 710 songs in WOR. I cannot post links, but GOOD rom image is named "Guitar Hero - Warriors of Rock (USA) (En,Fr)" in WBFS format from MyRient site uploaded by someone with the nick ArbysHasTheMeats (TY Man:bow:). I guess you will find it :) There is also BAD rom image on that site and it is named "Guitar Hero - Warriors of Rock [SXIE52]" in WBFS format.

If you already have rom image of WOR on Wii or on PC you can test it to check if it is good or bad image - go to Spoiler below.

By the way for everyone who has GHWT DLC songs unplayable and marked in grey you should also install GHWT Import DLC. After installation all songs from GHWT DLC will be playable. If you dont want 35 songs imported from original GHWT Import DLC than you can go to SD card in folder private\wii\data\sYOE and delete all big .bin files from there (files with size more than 10Mb). After that GHWT DLC songs remain playable, but 35 Import songs will be deleted.

Also a small question: is it normal that I got no audio preview of DLC songs in GH WOR?

To check if your Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock NTSC rom image is good or bad on Wii follow this:
  • Run GH WOR game at least one time so it will create save file in Wii memory
  • Install on your Wii SaveGameManagerGX homebrew app with Homebrew Browser or any other method, then run it
  • In SaveGameManager in upper menu click most left icon (with SD or USB image) and choose Wii in this menu
  • You will see game saves in NAND memory of Wii, find GH WOR game and click it
  • You will see ID code of a save, if it is SXIP then your rom image is BAD (or you have PAL version of rom image). If ID is SXIE then rom is good
To check if your Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock NTSC rom image is good or bad on PC follow this:
  • Install Dolphin emulator and run it
  • In emulator choose folder with GH WOR rom image so the rom is listed in main window of emulator
  • Right click on game and click Properties, then go to Filesystem tab
  • If in Data Partition string you see ID SXIP then your rom image is BAD. If ID is SXIE then rom is good
I don't know exactly but bad rom image of GH WOR looks like a cheap conversion of PAL image to NTSC image of game. While Dolphin and USB Loader recognise it as good NTSC version in reality it creates PAL save file in Wii memory. So some USA DLC's are not compatible with this bad image

Awesome to hear you have it working with all 710 songs!

I believe the audio previews are all working correctly for me... I had my GH/RB SD crack on me so I'll transfer the content to a different SD and test. I'll get back here with confirmation within the next day.

BTW, I assume you are in PAL region but Region changed your Wii to NA NTSC?

Таки просто огромное человеческое СПАСИБО!

Thank you very, VERY MUCH! I should have checked my game image real ID myself, yet somehow i never once think about it. Now I FINALLY have all 606 DLC songs and 710 songs total in my GH WoR.

Let me once again show my respect to RunningSnake for his instruction and to you for your help in overcoming the difficulties that have arisen in the process.

I believe the audio previews are all working correctly for me... I had my GH/RB SD crack on me so I'll transfer the content to a different SD and test. I'll get back here with confirmation within the next day.

BTW, I assume you are in PAL region but Region changed your Wii to NA NTSC?
RB3 plays audio previews of DLC songs from SD card correctly for me. I watched few videos and think GH games on Wii cannot play preview of DLC songs from SD after all ...

Yeah, my Wii is PAL, but I did not change its region, as PAL system never bothered me, my console is modchiped and region free. I installed USA version of GH WOR because there is no Europe version of Guitar Hero - Smash Hits DLC. Also I don't want to change region now as I have a lot of Wii games with saves, and I assume changing region now might break saves in some games.
