After almost 6 years in development, the official Price of Persia and Ubisoft social media accounts have announced the full cancellation of the remake of Sands of Time.

The remake of "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" was announced all the way back in September 2020, with the original release date scheduled for the start of 2021. However, that original date was pushed back in December, with the game then being moved to March 2021, only to be delayed indefinitely the month before the release. Ubisoft's financial reports during that year still showed a 2022-2023 plausible release date for the game.

News broke out again in 2022 regarding the remake, as Ubisoft Montreal took over the development of the game following a restructure, but still, delays happened, and nothing came out about the game until around 2024, where a tentative 2026 release date was announced yet again. Finally, 2025 came around, where the game was scheduled to release either by the end of 2025, or Q1 of 2026.

The new year arrived, and on January 21st, 2026, the official Prince of Persia and Ubisoft social media accounts announced a definitive stop in the development of the remake, officially cancelling the remake after years and years of internal delays and struggles.

This becomes yet another bump in the road for Ubisoft, after a long chain of bad reception and releases.

It would have been chock full of DRM's anyway. GOG is where to go if you want the original with no DRM and oh! You get to own the game! You won't be renting a license that Ubisoft can just revoke from your account!

Remake is not important. Only original game without remake is very solid.

Bring Windows XP / 7 games to current operating systems and future operating systems to keep play same, same old games for many years. Remake games are wasted and not important.

Developers need to stop make same remake games period. Amen.

So sands of time got delisted on xbox for the remake just for the remake to get canceled? Now no original or remake.

The game is backwards compatible on Xbox One / Series X and yes, it was delisted, but you can buy the disc and play it that way.

While i liked and to a degree loved the original on Gamecube, this is the best option. A bit late, though. The reason speaks for itself:

Why is it in Development for six years?
PoP fans can just play the original for a fraction of the price. Not everyone is in that boat, but it's not hard to predict that it jury's sales. Who is really waiting on how beautiful AI can render all those graphics?

If people want a remastered version of SoT, the port on Xbox is the closest.

Personally, my favorite PoP will always be Warrior Within.

Crazy they can't even remake their own game from 2003

At least make some remaster or something ... A remastered trilogy would go hard, the 1st one at least needs a lot of tweaks on PC

Remake it with micro transactions, always online requirement, and probably stupid DLCs no one asked for... We dodged a bullet.
