aside from this being insanely fucked up, those are children and we should do our best to help them, not throw money at them so they go away-
this is just an incentive, incentives are completely normal
you want people to do something? you incentivize them doing it
you can have a positive incentive like this where if you do something desirable you're rewarded
you can have a negative incentive like how you're encouraged to follow the law because there's a penalty if you don't
it's better to have positive incentives than negative ones because negative incentives can breed resentment
society functions on stuff like this

The conservatives who will inevitably post in this thread will say it's a good thing that we're being cruel to children, and they would honestly prefer if we were hunting and killing migrants in the street, prior to feasting on their flesh (not that they'd ever admit it).
 
ICE is turning out to be so expensive that the perceived economic benefits of ICE is being outweighed by the cost of ICE. It's basically why sanctuary cities never bothered. The benefit of having those migrants in the cities actually boosted the economy. It doesn't matter though, the status quo will be back by 2028. Vance is unelectable and no one else can get away with the stuff Trump did,

ICE gets quotas for deporting people. Now people (17 year olds, no less) get paid for deporting...

How long until there's an industry of 'revolving door' (im)migration where kids just use part of their money to sneak back into the US for a second/third/... Round of deportations?

Edit: for the record: while I think it's a bad idea, I'm not on the same page as others. Given this government, getting paid to leave (yeah, even without a plan) would be the better option. Like... Am I supposed to believe that the us is still somehow a safe place for them right now?
