Hey all, wanted to ask a few questions related to some strange stuff going on with my 3ds and if its possible to work around them.

So my start button is (kinda) busted? idk it's hard to tell in what way it's busted. The button acts as if it's constantly held down in some instances, like on boot I have to hold L to not be stuck in Godmode, but in certain games like Fire Emblem Awakening it doesn't skip the cutscenes or enemy phases?
Along with that for some reason after my start button broke FBI no longer wanted to boot either. It would open but instead of loading the main menu it would just kick me back out to home.
Plus when I bring up the cheats menu for certain games like Fire Emblem Fates, it just freezes??? And I have to power the console off bc it's stuck on the cheats menu???

My questions about this are:

Is anyone aware of what's actually happening with my start button?

Is there a way to fix whatever's happening with FBI?

If not, is it possible to directly install games onto my 3ds without FBI?

thanks in advance, this shit has been baffling

Your start button is stuck, FBI will send you back to the hb menu if start is pressed (that is the exit button)

FE and most games won't register the start button as being pressed if it was being held before the action that requires start to be pressed happens

Nothing strange here and there is no software related issue either, just fix or have someone fix your start button

You can install .cias with Godmode9, yes (or with custom-install, but that's pretty much the same thing). But it's a bit pointless to do so if your start button is physically busted.
Most games that I wish to play do not require the start button, so I would disagree on the pointless end.

Have the exact problem, solution?
Never press start again. Let it do its own thing but once in a while open Rehid which uses start as exit.
If you are not kicked to home screen, then great! Take the opportunity to remap your controls: Change start to select and vice versa. So, you'll be using the select key from now.

But you may ask, Q: how does this help in the boot up screen? Do I still have to hold L (left trigger) ?
A: Surprisingly no, which makes me believe it's a software problem.
Conclusion: You are able to access all tools available from Godmode9

I don't know the cause of the problem nor the reason behind the solution.
But I do have one last thing to say. Once you've remapped your controls.
There may be a weird occurrence where your select doesn't respond.
Do NOT open Rehid and retry to remap controls.
Just turn your 3ds off whenever this happens and you should be good.
If it still doesn't respond, turn it off again. NEVER open Rehid after remapping.

To answer your other concerns:

Q: Is there a way to fix whatever's happening with FBI?
A: Since FBI uses start as exit. Remapping your controls fixes it!

Q: If not, is it possible to directly install games onto my 3ds without FBI?
A: Yes! You can, Universal updater is the best option but you can't use it unless you've finished remapping.
(It uses start as exit as well)
Note: using FBI to install games requires 2x the game size of free space. (Not really efficient)

Alternative: You may use the homebrew launcher to install games.
(Games won't appear on home screen but must be accessed via the homebrew launcher)

That's all I got. Hope you find this useful
Tschüss
