Wii U with controller adapters - Did any adapter work fully on vWii ?

This topic has been kind of a gray area when it comes using a PS4 controller or any other bluetooth controller on the Wii U

Back in the day when the Wii U was sold in stores, there was a company that released an adapter called Brook PS3/PS4 to Wii U.

1) this "PS3/PS4 to Wii U" adapter claimed that you could use a PS4 controller on the wii U. (the adapter was white and blue)
2) there was no AROMA back then, bloopair on aroma is now the free way and there is no need for an adapter.
3) Brook son after the release of the Nintendo switch, ditched the adapter and released a "PS3/PS4 to Nintendo switch" adapter (this adapter was red and blue)
4) Brook again ditched the adapter again, but there was a catch, the SWITCH adapter could be flashed with the Wii U adapter firmware, and it had like 3 firmwares depending if you wanted a classic or pro controller emulation in the adapter.

I tried one of those adapters on my wii U, the red&blue one, but i was curious if it could work on the vWii, and i could not make it work, i think the controller started to rumble non stop.

So my question is, when you are using the Wii U.. in vWii mode, is there ANY ADAPTER or way to use a dualshock4 controller WIRELESS or a dualsense controller WIRELESS to control the hand in the vWii channel or to use under vWii homebrew channel apps like usbloader gx, or Snes emulators, nes emulatrors?

I researched a lot and the only thing that actually works for me on vWii s the Blue Retro Core + wii cable
Blueretro core is an adapter and the cables for each console are sold separate. there is a wii cable that connects to the adapter and the other end connects to the WIIMOTE.

it is the only thing that worked for me on vWii. Blueretro core has a lot of firmwares, and functionality, button mapping, and cables to many many consoles. and they include a setting for either wii classic controller or Wii classic controller pro.( this is done always connected to a wiimote, vwii is wiimote entry point)

that being said, you can use your PS4 controller on vWii menu, launch channels, launch Homebrew channel, even play a NES emulator from the vWii homebrew channel. So the PS4 controller would emulate a "wii classic controller pro". there are some drawbacks for example when sometimes you launch something on vWii the wiimote turns off and you need to press "A" on the wiimote for it to power on again.

But the list of games compatible with the "wii classic controller pro" is limited there are not many that i like, for example tatsunoko vs capcom, RE4 and a couple more i like, there is a list on the wiki. It works but the Wii games were mostly designed to use with a nunchuck, therefore using a ps4 controller on vWii is not so great unless you want virtual console games, but it is an option since those classic controllers pro now are expensive, i have seen crazy prices to get one of those wii classic pro controllers..

This solution ALSO works on the Wii U side, connecting the adapter to a WiiMote.
But here on Wii U more problems come:

1) the PS4 controller is connected wireless to the blueretro core, that is connected also to the wiimote, therefore it is being emulated as a Wii classic controler pro, using the Wii U menu.

2) If you launch a game like for example New super mario bros U and luigi U, the ps4 controller will not work because the game i think was not designed to work with a "wii mote + classic controller", other games like mario kart 8 i think worked. so you are mostly tied to what wii U games support wii classic controller.

3) SO ON WII U, you are better with bloopair, press sync on the wii U, put the ps4 controller on pairing mode, and the console will detect the controller i belive as a "WII U PRO CONTROLLER", and super mario bros U WILL work with the ps4 controller because its being emulated as a "wii U pro controller."


there has been not many videos about this, even not many videos about blueretro core, people always asking about how to connect a wireless controller on vWii , it can be done but its not worth it, unles you want it for homebrew or for virtual console games

• Using ModMii on your PC, select F to open a file (and hit return).
• On the next screen, drag the wad above to the window and hit return. It will launch ModMii WAD tools and open that wad.
• Select Modify.
• Change the name to "USB Loader GX-247". The 247 is whatever slot your Fakemote ios is in that you want to try. Beware, if the title is too long, it can get cropped in the Wii Menu. This doesn't set the IOS to use, this is just for the Wii menu name.
• Next, changed the IOS to use. I am using 247. Most people using Fakemote with default install would want 252 here, as well as in the title name.
• I kept it UNEO so it would be compatible with the Wii U forwarder, and any "Return to UNEO" settings.
• Keep hitting return until it requires a visibility setting. I selected N, "Don't make it invisible."
• Hitting return, it then saves the wad with a new name ending in ModXXXX. I changed the name of the whole file to "USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder_vWii_247.wad". Again, if the file name is too long, you might not be able to tell the difference between the original and the modded version in your wad installer of choice.
• Put this in your wad folder on your SD card.
• Uninstall the original forwarder channel with your wad manager of choice. I used YAWM ModMii Edition of course. If you don't have the wad for it in your wad folder, you should be able to just uninstall this one. I believe since it has the same UNEO id as the original, it will work to uninstall the old one.
• Install the modded forwarder.
• Beware, if you don't have an IOS in the slot this is set to, it won't work!
• Return to the Wii menu, and try the forwarder. When you hover over it, it should have the name you gave it in ModMii.

In USB Loader GX, I set the LoaderIOS to 247, and I defaulted the game IOS to 247 as well.

With this, I can open USB Loader GX from the forwarder and have immediate control with Fakemote, maintaining the common d2x setup of slots 248-251. I can also use the Wii U USB Loader GX forwarder to go directly from Wii U to USB Loader GX and use the Switch Controller from there on. I don't have the Switch controller paired to the Wii U using Bloopair, I just have it paired to the Mayflash NS2.

Remember that Fakemote uses Left-shoulder + Left Stick click to switch between wiimote and classic controller mode. I wasn't even aware that the sticks WERE clickable.

I would like to be able to use the Switch Pro via Mayflash with the Wii U, but Bloopair doesn't like the Mayflash (or any wired HID controller apparently). I tried what was purported to be an alpha of the Aroma version of hidtovpad, but it didn't do anything either. I think Maschell has lost interest in that project since Bloopair is the better solution for most people.

Side notes:

As for getting the vWii menu to use Fakemote too, I tried to change vWii Menu IOS to 247 in PriiLoader, where I have Fakemote IOS 57, and got error:

"ES_Diverify failed! Is the IOS patched? IOS v247"

Apparently from the Priiloader issues page on github, that was fixed in libogc's 2.8.0, but there isn't a Priiloader build with that fix in it yet. (And isn't libogc in peril?)

Probably would be best to have a Fakemote IOS 80 for the menu, but it doesn't matter at this point, since I am not comfortable changing ios 80 to a patched version.

I'm sure there will be plenty of comments about how it can be done better, but this felt safest to me. Of course I will edit in any recommended changes!

According to @Squished Squirrel you can use the Mayflash Magic NS 2 if you set it to macOS mode, I tried this with the older Mayflash Magic NS but was unable to get it to work.

That was using the Teal "MacOS" mode that presented the stick as a PS4 controller.

Right now, I'm going for gold, and trying to compile a version of Fakemote that works in "PS3/Dinput" (Blue) mode. If I can make it work, that would be one solution that can cross from HIDtoVPAD to USB Loader GX to Nintendont. That mode already works in HIDtoVPAD, and Nintendont (Each needing a config file).

I don't know if I will be able to mod fakemote, but I think I understand the "struct ds3_input_report" section enough to change it.

I believe the NS PS3 mode has a VID/PID of [vid=0x0079,pid=0x18d2], the NS2 is [vid=0x33df,pid=0x000a], I don't know what the Magic S is.

That would be great, so you can have a single wireless controller for everything. By the way I tried to connect the adapter again, now using the macOS/PS classic mode, still no luck, maybe the newer adapter has some improvements that the older one lacks, that let it stay powered on when loading a Wii game.

It appears that if it doesn't recognise the VID/PID of the mode the adapter is in, it shut ithe USB port back off. With the recompile, I can get it to stay on now in PS3 mode, but inputs are all over the place and it eventually freezes. I know the compile is good since the other mode continues to work.

I am still curious what the VID/PID are for the PS3/Blue and MacOS/Teal modes of your adapter. That might explain why it is just getting shut back off.

Is there any way to use the GameCube controller, with that USB adapter for Wii U, on the vWii? Whether in games that have the option of using the GameCube controller, Wii emulators or Nintendont

Fakemote is still in beta, so that could be the part of what's causing that issue, I remember testing it a couple years ago and some games would simply crash after a few seconds, but there have been some improvements since then.

To my knowledge, you have 2 options for GameCube games:
1. The GameCube controller adapter from Nintendo or Mayflash. This will let you play GameCube games via Nintendont, and maybe some emulators too but I haven't tested that.
2. The GameCube to Wiimote adapter from Mayflash. This makes it so that the GameCube controller is detected as a Wii Classic controller pro (meaning no analog triggers) and should work with Nintendont and any Wii game and emulator that supports the classic controller.
 
i can confirm the Mayflash works with nintendont (https://www.amazon.com/-/es/MAYFLASH-Gamecube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE) , i played a couple games about 2 years ago
did not do much testing, there was a special button combination i think to close nintendont that i found over reddit because the adapter is kind of different.

so it should work with a wavebird to make it wireless too, but i don't have one

maybe with the mayflash adapter + blueretro core + gamecube cable for blueretro can even make work one of those Gamecube Wireless bluetooth controllers

Yeah, its nuts. You just know they could make a single adapter with all the source gamepads and destination consoles/computers.

I am not making a recommendation until I can find a way to do all the modes, WiiU, Wii and GC (Nintendont) without changing adapters or changing modes on the adapter.

Besides tinkering with Fakemote, I've also got a Brook Xbox to Switch adapter on the way. From what I read before, and OP of this thead posted, the PS3/PS4 to Switch adapter could be flashed with older firmware that made them Wii/WiiU compatible. The xbox version also had that option, and I'm hoping I can revert it back to the "Classic" mode. It might be a little sketch, Because then you have to do Mayflash (In Xbox mode) -> Brook (Xbox to Wii U Classic firmware), and then it connects bluetooth to the WiiU/Wii. The upside is no mods to the WiiU or Wii needed.

Some might remember this vid: My Mate Vince

The PS3/PS4 to WiiU (or the later PS3/PS4 to Switch) adapters are near impossible to find.

i have that one brook "PS3/PS4 to Nintendo switch"
i flashed it with the classic firmware of the wii U brook adapter

i could not make it work on vWii, it starts to kick the rumble forever and never works.

I am prepared for disappointment. I don't even know if the model I am getting can be flashed with the older firmware.

i will be super honest with you because i followed all these stories for years.

I own the following:

1) blueretro core + wii cables
2) brook ps3/ps4 to switch adapter (red and blue) with the ps2/ps4 to wiiU adapter (white) firmware for classic
3) Mayflash magic NS adapter (the first one they released back in the day when switch was released)

there has been lots of crazy stories and videos connecting many things on the WiiU and vWii, or even Wii. and these are my conclusions


1) For vWii WIRELESS, the only thing that works is blueretro core (Tested with a dualshock4 controller on homebrew channel and even emulating nes and snes games.

2) For vWii WIRED (not wireless) the brook adapter (ps4 to NS) works but it stops working once you launch homebrew channel or usbloader gx2 channel, so not good because we are looking for wireless on vWii. We already have bloopair for wireless wii U but i always wanted wireless vWii.

3) For vWii WIRELESS, this is the case of that famous youtube video with a wii where they connect the brook adapter with the mayflash adaper and they sync with the blinking blue light with a wireless controler: THIS DOES NOT WORK on vWii, you see the hand in the vWii channels but as soon as you press a button the controller starts to rumble forever and you have to remove the USBS to make it stop, (tested with 2 ps4 controllers)

the famous brook adapter for wii that everybody wants, works WIRED on wii U and vWii mode, with the classic firmware but not working for homebrew. ( i did not try a vc game)


i think the adapter was designed more for wii U and not vWii, if you check the video on youtube from them with the 3 fat guys playing SF2 you will see they are using wired to the controller.

So You mean that fakemote is compatible with other controller than dualshock 3 and 4 ?

Do you all think that a day, use the GameCube USB adapter for Wii games will be possible ? By an cIOS modification like fakemote.

Another question, what the thing that make nintendont able to be compatible with the Wii U pro controller or GameCube adapter whereas USB loader GX can't be. Is it because of how Wii games controls input are made ?
