But the Wii Remote is an infra-red camera ... the sensor bar has the IR LEDs.

EDIT: Found another video by the developer which explains this somewhat.

It is the sensor bar that's blasting the IR signals. I don't know where the dev's Roku is that it's able to receive the signals from the sensor bar, but the IR leds in the sensor bar are apparently powerful enough that they'll reflect back off whatever is facing the TV, so even if the receiving device is not facing the sensor bar, it should receive the IR signal on the return trip, as long as there's something in the foreground for it to bounce off.

Saw this thread months ago but cannot find anything yet. Just giving love to it.
Also I'm doing a game and because I get carried away i thought that it would be neat to controll the volume of the tv from the game itself implementing this. I did the research and the IR light has an output similar to the disclight so technically just changing the adress of the disclight to the IR sensorbar ahould do the trick. The thing is that the Hz needed to comunicate with the TV are not so easy to achieve and this is beyond my programing knowleadge. So here i am.

I think that it should be interesting to physically controll you tv from the console. Of course you can lower the volume inside the game via programmed software yes. but hey thats how we evolve.
Of course there should be a menu in game to recognise your tv and "save it" and it should have every major TV firm saved previously (and be updatable).
But not only for volume. Maybe play with the contrast to reveal something in a puzzle game, turn off the TV entirely on an horror game and make you turn it on quicky with your tv remote... I dont know. But it seems cool enough to give it a try

Was this damn thing actually made and finished? or was it just another ''Hey guys, look, i am thinkering and goofin around with this, this should be easy right?

I have a DVD Recorder from Magnavox that i would love to be able to have access to all its features with a remote controller, because the Universal one i had does not work with it at all!

development was stalled for months but the dev is working on it again and is making good progress

Sup fellows, Dakotath here (The developer of WiiIR), I've recently continued development of WiiIR, and I thought I'd share the current progress with it.

I ended up getting RAW codes (aka pronto codes) to work with WiiIR, and by doing that, I can easily say my Wii hasn't met a device it can't control so far. As Christmas is upcoming, I managed to get my current version to control my Christmas tree LEDs :D.
My current plan for browsing devices and manufacturers is a new XML based browser, where I'll have an app released that automatically creates you the latest XML with devices and codes in it. Heres a screenshot of what the browser might look like:

Hi, your project seems very similar to what I'm currently working on lol.
https://github.com/abdelali221/WiiRremote
Funnily enough, I was going to give it the exact same name lol.

Hey, I’ve been busy with life recently, moving to a new house and all that fun stuff, I’ve recently been trying to finish WiiIR, and I expect to hopefully release WiiIR by June 30th, 2026. Here’s some pictures of development progress. I’m currently trying to figure out in app updates, cURL isn’t being very kind to me on the Wii, but development has improved where you can still run the GUI and send IR codes now.

I’m also attempting to port it to other platforms, such as Linux windows and switch, because IR blasting can still technically be achieved through the audio port, though Im still uncertain how great this approach is Im still trying nonetheless
