Anyone ever tried using a dual microsd adapter? I was thinking of purchasing one and a new backplate to mod and fit one. Kinda cool to flip a switch (no pun intended) between two cards. They seem pretty small, wouldn't think it would be too tough to do. Could even relocate the switch on it for ease of use.

Seen it at several shops online. Here is one after a quick search Dual Adapter or on ebay for $8 Here

From my limited searching so far seems the only issue (which I think would be obvious), is to never switch it while powered or risk corrupting the cards contents.

You could get a flex cable to fold it back up toward the back of the switch so it doesn’t stick out. Did you pull the trigger on this? It would be immensely helpful when upgrading AMS/Hekate/FW on major releases. 😃

I wish they made this SIM card adaptor for micro sd!

Don’t look now, but here’s a 20 card SIM card adapter…that you can daisy chain!1!!!!1!

Watch the video. SMH. Why oh why no sd card reader like this?

lmao that's crazy. imagine having a switch with 10x 1tb micro sd cards..

btw that second thing you showed should should combines 4 micro sd cards into a single large one, like those memory stick adapters for psp.

Anyway, I'm still kinda hoping they would make a sd to sata adapter so we can use hard drives or ssds in switch lol

A RAID5 array of 4x1TB sd cards would be so 1337 (for those who will spend $500.00 on hardware to avoid paying for games.)

Yeah there's even an 8 slot version, crazy stuff. Like who's gonna find it useful?

But a SATA drive to SD interface adapter should be useful for many scenarios, like those security cameras with only sd card slots. Don't think it would be too complicated as the reverse adapter has been available for years.

I think even my dumb ass could RE this thing:

I mean it looks like a chip to flip 8 outputs to A or B, a switch to do the flipping and some resistors/capacitors to squelch stray electrical signals?

Could cut up a flexible microSD extension cable so it could go in the slot and fold back on itself.

Print out a PCB that can hold 2-3 microSD sockets:

There’s already a kickstand on thingiverse that holds 3 micro SDCards (a tip of the hat to a certain someone.) ;-)

I honestly think it’s feasible…

So once again @randy_w just so happens to be a bystander in yet another thread that ends with me buying more crap.

Coincidence? I think not.

So this time the damage was only about $30. He’s cost me a lot more in other threads so I’m feeling pretty good about this one.

Most importantly I picked up the dual SDCard pi adapter. I think the chip is going to be an 8 x 2:1 multiplexer but I’m going to have to learn about micro sd cards cause I don’t know much about them in sd mode (only spi) so I’m hoping they don’t scratch the markings off the top of the chip so I can cheat a little. The rest was a couple bucks here and there and I can do the 3d print mods to fit the sd card sockets with enough room for the chip to sit in the middle slot.

I don’t want to jinx it but if it works I think I’m going to call it the DragonNest as a tribute to those who walked the path before us. I don’t think Ninty can get too bent out of shape about claiming to own the rights to the way micro sd cards work and the circuitry to switch between multiple cards.

Even if there was no warning to not change them while the Switch is powered on, it would still force you to shut down the console after one ejects to allow the other to connect. Not sure if it's specifically an Atmosphere thing however.

Perfect for running Android/SXOS on one card, Atmosphere on another. And would reduce the need to swap out the SD card and break the flimsy pins.

Would love something like this.

You can have Atmosphère and SXOS on the same card.

I saw the dual adapter a couple years ago. Maybe ill pull the trigger.. great for Switchroot and l4t.

Too bad about the dragon mmc Matty is amazing.... i love my DI

Ninty sucks.

So it begins…

image.jpg

It’s a tight fight where the 90 degree bend in the dual SDCard adapter meets the outside of the SDCard slot opening but it clicks the spring and boots up (or should I say dual boots up?) just fine.

Will see if I can read any numbers on the chip and then take it all apart for some tracing and component measuring.

e: Well shit, it looks like they’ve covered their tracks:

Any guesses what that chip might be?

Appreciate the feedback.

interesting q/a here:

https://electronics.stackexchange.c...tching-between-sd-cards-connected-in-parallel

I still think it’s some sort of a 8 x 2:1 multiplexer chip.

E: this dude is a savage with the daisy chaining.

Same pin configuration and everything. I’m going to trace this PCB out and see if we have a match.
