    I put Ubuntu on one of my old PCs from 1999 and it runs pretty well. I even managed to get Half Life 1 running on it. I never tried hosting servers, but I'm sure it'd do fun for a low-key game.

    What's your PSU wattage? Is it a cheap stock PSU or have you replaced it with something brand-name? I used to have this problem with my old DELL, after I replaced the shitty graphics card with something halfway decent. It would randomly turn off in some games due to a lack of power.
