Hacking Old backups require FW update??

Ironically, I wanted to use an NSP because I find it a pain having to get up and change my carts all the time when I'm playing at home and wanted to cut that work out. Funny how it has been such a pain getting it to work cart free anyway!

Hacking Old backups require FW update??

Interesting, good to know, thanks for the info. I was thinking though, does the update file actually matter then as I'm already on a higher FW, surely it would have nothing to install? therefore, it shouldn't matter if I update?

Hacking Old backups require FW update??

I wasn't installing an update, it was just the base NSP: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [0100152000022000][v0] with goldleaf

Hacking Old backups require FW update??

Thanks for the advice! I ended up updating to the latest FW as I'm lazy and even on FW 8.0 it's still asking for a FW update. Any thoughts? Also, I tried to use those tools but I could'nt work out how to use them I don't think, do you know of any guides around? Thanks :)

Hacking Old backups require FW update??

Thanks for the insight but not entirely sure I understand, sorry! My switch has always been in airplane mode and only has FW 5.1 so the update has to be coming form the NSP and I just can't work out why a V1 game requires/has files for a higher FW.

Hacking Old backups require FW update??

Hi all, TLDR: Switch games that shouldn't need high FW (eg MarioKart) ask for it after NSP install even though I'm on FW 5.1. Why and how can I fix it? I have been enjoying the switch hacking scene but I have run into an issue trying to play games that should work on my FW but still pester me...

Hacking [NOOB] Update after CFW instalation

Hi, I apologize if this is a noob question and please point me in the correct direction if this is obvious/had been answered previously (I'm new to 3DS CFW etc). I purchased a used 3DS system with CFW/homebrew installed but it has the old Nintendo user account attached to it. To remove it I...

Hacking Question Installing NSPs on ReiNX and firmware requirements

So, if this has been posted elsewhere I apologize and please point me in the correct direction! :) My question is, I am on FW 4.1 and I wanted to play the new pokemon game but I know this game needs higher than that (5.1 I think?). I have been using tinfoil to install games in ReiNX and I...

Hacking Question Is there a way to check firmware version of my switch dump

Hi all, I'm really enjoying the current switch homebrew scene and am quite happily keeping my switch in offline mode. However, I wanted to go online at some point and I have heard that Nintendo has some tricky telemetry information that can ban your switch/account or whatever even if I have...

Hacking Question Pre-owned games and cart dumping

Very interesting, I had just assumed certs were an anti-piracy device. With that said, if someone dumped a cert and then continued to use that online after selling the game then it could still get banned for the new owner. I understand Nintendo gets no direct profit from pre-owned games but it...

Hacking Question Pre-owned games and cart dumping

Would that not then kill the entire pre-owned market? that is a big bad PR move don't you think?

Hacking Question Pre-owned games and cart dumping

As far as I understand, all switch games have a unique identifier attached to them. If you dump your own games they can be dumped with these identifiers so that they can potentially be played online and Nintendo wont ban you as you are not playing a pirated copy (correct me if I'm mistaken...
