    I went through the trouble of basically reassembling the entire joy con and checking all of the ribbon cables. I'm convinced that everything is done correctly, it just won't detect the battery for some reason.

    Actually yes, they will work, granted that you have shared saves enabled. Back when Loadiine was king, I used my SD card on my friend's system and it worked fine.
