    the ayn thor has been pretty cool so far, but temper your expectations on performance in pc games;

    it's still in decently earlier stages than i expected, and when playing pc games i can currently expect 1-2 hours of battery life and it can be a fight to get 60fps in 3d games

    console emulators on the other hand are a whole different story, mario odyssey for example runs so bafflingly well that it feels native to the platform, while being able to last several hours on one charge

    gamecube and wii emulation seem to barely put a dent in the battery, im still struggling to understand that one

    Yeah the 8 Gen 2 is pretty well documented and has great driver support. The popularity of the Thor in particular should see some really cool projects. PC games are hit and miss. Some hefty 3D games will run with few issues (Metal Gear Solid V worked for me, or at least the intro), while random indie games won't boot at all (Binding of Isaac Rebirth). Looking forward to seeing how it all progresses though.

    i had never played salmon run and frankly thought it looked unfun, but splatoon raiders is phenomenal, i was one of the ones who was hoping for a singleplayer splatoon game ever since 1 and they delivered far better than i couldve ever hoped for

    i had such mixed expectations because of the $50 pricing so that also lent to it becoming such a fun surprise

    i will say though, this is the first game on switch 2 where ive actually been disappointed in no 120fps option, the limitations of 60fps become much more apparently with this motion control style and ive gotten much more motion sickness prone over the years so 120fps would really help out with that, especially with there constantly being hundreds of moving things on screen at once at some points

    i have no idea what to expect from the OOT remake, it scrambled me emotionally and the trailer seems like it could equally go either way of being weird, or being great

    Gaming  Thread '3DS games that do not use the 3D effect'

    I recently upgraded from a 2DS to the New 3DS and was surprised to find that my Pokemon X doesn't do the 3D. So I was wondering if the new pokemon games were like that and what other games that are made for the 3DS that do not use the special 3D effect?

    i returned to echoes of wisdom now that botw/totk burnout has died down...
    im guessing that burnout also kept a lot of others away from the game, because i never heard anything about this game being as insanely fun as it is

    even the character writing and miniature storylines are akin to that of twilight princess' own

    thats what really got me in to it finally, was when i got to the zoras and their dynamics were super charming to just listen in on

    it uses whatever language the system is set to, so in this case yes, but i dont know which dialects the switch support overall

    i wonder if nintendo is going to taper off of open world stuff and that it was mostly to display the power of the switch 2, or if theyre going to start leaning back in to it again as a result of the freedom enabled by the new hardware

    finally finished skyrim for the first time on switch 2... even nintendo's stability is no match for a bethesda game

    only one of the pokemon ive had waiting to be able to put in ZA was actually allowed

    i put all this time in violet getting a little team, including a shiny vulpix, and instead all i can bring over is a VAPOREON

    not even leafeon my favorite one, specifically vaporeon

    demon tides has been a great goofy game, and the newest update added a full on built in randomizer

    i never tried the demo so i dont know how up to date it is, but i strongly recommend looking in to it

    not only that, but my biggest gripe with MK8DX was literally that i dont like 3 lap races because it feels like such an arbitrary number

    i can understand the "straight line" complaints and they could definitely do more to improve it, i especially wish charge jumps were a more core part of the experience for the blander sections

    but at the same time, man its so refreshing to not do 3 laps (at the expense of getting crucified by the vocal side of the playerbase for not voting the 3 map option every time)

    the majority of the time, i find ray/path tracing in games to feel less accurate to real life than just whatever the native shading was

    i was looking around for games with good implementation of it, and cyberpunk was the the most recommended one, so im looking at comparisons and it feels like a solid 70/30 split on whether it hurts or improves immersion in any given example

    Camera footage is the closest analog we have to real life that can be studied and compared to. Obviously, it's not as easy to measure exactly what our eyeballs capture, and it differs slightly from person to person.

    I think it's also a bit of a technical limitation. Light reflects and scatters infinitely in real life, leading shadows to be softer. Real time path tracing has to hard cap the number of times light can reflect off a surface. Given more powerful hardware, it's as simple as turning up the number of reflections to get a more accurate result. But for each time the light scatters, hardware requirements go up tenfold.

    Subjectively, I think that the image on the right could use tonemapping to get a better (more visually pleasing) result. That's sort of cheating but until we have computer hardware that's 100 times more powerful than what we have now, it's a necessary evil. Too much detail is lost because the shadows are so dark. It might look better in HDR because then tonemapping is applied (and contrast in general is improved)
