ez5eg5.gif

An update to the EZ-Flash V kernel. New in this version is auto-DLDI patching and an updated cheat engine. Make sure to follow the bootstrap upgrade procedure below before updating if coming from a firmware older than 1.68. Download, changelog, and bootstrap upgrade instructions below. Nod to ccosmos for the tip.

[title:Changelog]1. Add auto DLDI patching
2. Modified the cheat engine
3. Fixed the white screen after txt reading
4. resetsp.bin updated to 1981, fixed 1960 1978
Notice: this version kernel also included the bootstrap loader updater, if you never updated to 1.68 before. please read the instruction below before you update this kernel.
[title:Bootstrap Loader Upgrade Instructions]Don't extract the EZ5SYS.BIN in the 1.68 package to your MicroSD root folder unless you already meet the condition 1 and 2

1. Your EZ5 cart must already updated to boot from EZ5SYS.bin. if you used the EZ5SYS.bin rename to EZ5UPLDR.bin update before. please update the smaller EZ5UPLDR.bin in the 1.68 package. the bootstrap loader update will not start unless the cart use the EZ5SYS.bin boot method.

2. Charge your DS power to full, connected with a charger will be better.

3. After you meet the above two conditions, extract the EZ5SYS.bin to your MicroSD root folder, put MicroSD into EZ5, EZ5 into DS, power up EZ5 as usual, the upgrade process will automatic start check the bootstrap loader version and upgrade. the process cost 3-5 seconds, Don't power off warning will displayed on the screen. power off DS while upgrade in the processing will cause your EZ5 cart bricked permanently. EZ5 will boot in desktop after upgrade. you can safe power off your DS now.

4. to verify the bootstrap loader version. just check the EZ5 boot menu by boot up EZ5 while R key pressed.
Black BG and big white font means older version, deepblue BG and small white font means new version.

5. Upgrade prcess only show one time, once you upgraded sucessful, it never show up again. please use 1.68 kernel as usual. even rename it and flash it to chip will be ok.

I have been using the test version for a while and autodldi patching works very well. If they get download and play fixed this will have everything the other slot1 cards have. Good job ez team

well it seems harder then it is. the main thing now is use the loader and let it load the kernel from the sd. People where renaming the kernel and flashing it to the chip and the kernel is now to big to do that. So if you use the loader you just have to replace the bin file on the sd card and the system is updated. Then it will act just like an r4 or what ever

The 1.68 firmware is only a week old. If you haven't updated it yourself, its most likely older.

Okay, but still, how do I know what version I have?

On the main screen of the R4 the kernel version is displayed in the lower left corner. Can't miss it.

How about on the EZFlash-V?

Thanks...

The complication is something that has to do with people that are not native english speakers more then anything else, those tend to write these instructions

.

The process is almost the same but now they replaced the method on how you update your card.

Used to be manual and now they switched to automatic that is if you copy the new file onto your card.

That is why you need to just copy the single file (EZ5UPLDR.bin) and update the kernel, before placing the new file ( EZ5SYS.BIN) (thus automaticly allow the update upon booting (hence boostrap loader).

You will see a slight change in how your ez5 boots and that is it, no more holding left or right when booting

this is actually not true.

the ezv has a small bootloader that handles the booting and flashing of the kernel (ez5upldr.bin) as well as booting to a slot-2 cart.

this means that even if you mess up a flash of a kernel update, you can still boot the cart and reflash a proper kernel.

the 1.68 and 1.70 kernels contain a update to that bootloader.

the danger comes from bricking that by not following the proper update procedure.

once you have updated the bootloader by following the proper procedure to update the bootloader, you can then reflash the 1.68 or 1.70 ez5sys.bin by renaming it to ez5upldr.bin.

it's easy to tell the difference between the old and new bootloader, the new one is blue and has smaller text.

Can you just back up all your games and saves, format your microSD card, and dump all the stuff in the zip file onto your fresh card?
See Fast's post about what the screen looks like when you hold R while booting the EZ-V.
If you see the blue screen then yes, you can just dump the files on your card, turn the EZ-V on as normal and it'll sort itself out.

If you get the black screen then you need to follow instructions 1 and 2 first to change it to the blue-screen version. After you have done this, then you can just dump the rest of the files on your card.

It's a lot easier than it sounds.

SDHC supported on ez5 ? Hum ...
Read this

Thanks luney.

Interesting read. Thanks for the link.

I guess to sum up, support for microSDHC on existing EZ-V cards is not possible unless the onboard chip is re-programmed. Doing so would be cost prohibitive because of shipping (i.e. you might as well buy a new card).

Sounds like they're trying to find a way to add SDHC support without hanging existing customers out to dry, but there isn't a good solution.
