I've been having problems hacking the music in an NDS game lately.

Converted MIDI of the new music I want to sseq.
Unpacked ROM.
Unpacked SDAT.
Replaced with new sseq.
Repacked SDAT.
Repacked ROM.
Two white screens.

Oh, and I noticed there is 2 sseq's of the music. One ends with a N, the other with a D(only one sucessfully converted back to midi, I believe it was the one that ended with N).I tryed replacing both. Still won't work. I'm suspecting that's the problem. Help?

@Naxito kiwi.ds (guy did a lot of 3d and sdat work) made a handful of tools that can repack but by hand is probably the best way.
Check over at the tahaxan forums if you are after the tools though.

Back on topic. I assume the rom works with a basic ndstool repack or you are using a tool/method that works properly (I assume a different size so ndsts is out unless it is smaller in which case I suggest you want to pad it to the same size with 00 and import that, try http://treeki.googlepages.com/nitroexplorer1.2.zip if you want). I am inclined to say this is the problem as I and others have butchered many SDAT files (hell we even messed them up on purpose to make Castlevania - PoR run better on slow carts) and used files almost entirely different.

As I understand it you made a new SSEQ file from a midi file and are attempting to pack it into the rom, in this case the midi2sseq* is not the most well tested of apps and the rebuilding apps are not the best either (they work for some but not for all). How does it fare with VGMtrans or one of the earlier crystaltile2 apps trying to read it back?

*for others reading http://kiwi.ds.googlepages.com/

Failing that your most likely problem is the lack of a bank for the sseq: sseq files are like midi in that they are like sheet music for machines. The DS has no standard list of instruments so it needs a bank file to go with it. I sense the midi2sseq was mainly aimed at those who wanted to tweak SSEQ files rather than replace them.

How would the bank be modified? When I packed the sdat everything from the original was there, no changed filenames or anything, just different sseq files.

Ahhh, VGMtrans didn't play back anything when I tried. Neither did anything else. So I guess it's a bank problem.
