Hello,

my friend is getting a new computer (family comp) and he wants to stop his dad from viewing porn on the computer and screwing it up.

This happened to the last 2 comps they had and my friend and the mom are tired of it.

are there any good porn blockers, kinda like a firewall that will not grant the dad access to porn sites without a password.

Preferebly a free program, and possibly something small enough that I can send them in an email. I live 4 hrs away... but I could mail a DVD to them if necessary.

Any help in this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
So you want Parental Controls to stop... a parent?

I guess you could try out NetNanny, just pirate it and check it out. I've heard it's stopped a few of my friends whose parents installed it on their computers, but I haven't ever seen it first hand.

There are ready-made categories you can just check off

You can even add your own logo to the page that comes up when you try to access something that is blocked. 'NO PORN FOR YOU' is a good one.

Did I mention that nothing needs to be running on your computer to use this? The site has very detailed instructions for changing your DNS to OpenDNS.

Do this so you don't waste the old computers. I can already see Dad's *SAD FACE* with what your friend is planning.
At least this way, he can look at all the porn he wants and not mess up the family computer.

Also: Anti-Virus Software.

Have you never heard about what happens when you get married?


@OP: just tell your friend's dad what the good safe sites are (fileporn has a bajillion dvd rip torrents though it is hard to search), and get a good virus program (NOD32 or kaspersky) just to be safe

My only suggestion that actually would work, required too steps.

Step one, password the system, lock dad's butt off the system. No porn nothing.

Step two, tell mom to chew out dad and get her ass back in his life literally. They both likely signed the same cliche deal when they got married. They are both responsible for meeting each other's needs.

My wife was told, "look, if you want to be the ONLY route, cool, I prefer the real thing any way". But the deal is, they have to provide the real deal

And if dad has the ok, from wife to look at porn, tell him to use his own computer.

Try to monitor his computer or something, have his wife do that, I forgot the website, but I think it's free and you can moniter the computer if it's always connected to a network, which porn is online, unless he downloads it. I forgot what it was called though.. anyone here know it?

Or just get a mac, and let him look up all the porn he wants.

OR, install firefox, with Adblock, Noscript and other anti-virus garbage.

This is really the best answer. Censorship is not.
