DS firmware on 3ds

I downloaded a nintendo ds "firmware" file (it has a .nds extension) and when I run it in the 3ds twilight menu it asks me for confirmation because it's going to modify the vram and I'm afraid something might happen.
Is there any risk of brick in doing it?

No, it can't touch the 3DS firmware. You can't brick a 3DS from DS mode.

it can only brick ds mode so you can fix that from 3ds mode if you want you can try it from an emunand

should be, most it could probably do is change your ds name, your ds name is stored in nvram and i think a few other things

it can only brick ds mode so you can fix that from 3ds mode if you want you can try it from an emunand
