Hacking Homebrew 3DS Region change Online play

I'm getting a Japanese New 3DS off of ebay, and I intend to region change it to USA.

I've heard that you can no longer access the eshop, but will I be able to do online play?

Online play with games like Super Smash Bros., Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, etc.

Only eshop is affected I believe, so game, game updates and dlc are affected.

according to this restriction apply to eshop only not online play in general.

You can play online normally. You only haver to install latest updates manually cause eShop doesnt work. Some games will conect to Japan servers thou.
