Popular Nintendo Switch emulator Ryujinx will no longer be supported on versions of Windows older than Windows 10. On their official Twitter page, the development team made the announcement, citing the reason as the age of the operating systems, noting that graphics driver updates have ended and that workarounds have already been necessary to keep the emulator running on Windows 7 up to this point. They also recommend that users who are not comfortable upgrading to Windows 10 simply install Linux.

True, even with WINE, CrossOver, Bottles, PlayOnLinux, Lutris, SteamOnLinux, VirtualBox, QEMU, KVM, XEN, VMWare, etc. And I'm only partially being sarcastic. Even with all of those options, it legit can still be a bit of a chore, just not too much of one depending on how you look at it.

It can be simple. If they want to stay on the older Windows, they can easily just install Linux on another drive and use that for Ryujinx. Or emulation in general for that matter. Can be a decent boost for more weaker hardware too considering how much of a resource hog Windows has become over the years.

Yeah, i guess it's about time this happened, can't blame the Devs either. Most Linux installations these days are as easy as installing windows from scratch too...and honestly Windows 10 isn't THAT bad compared to 8, especially if you trim the bloat out.

Proton more than simplified a lot of this. Virtualbox/QEMU/KVM/etc. and all that are a non-issue for most users. Lutris is also simple enough, as long as the install scripts are current. The hardest part is learning to understand how the installs work so that making relevant changes don't bork it.

Granted, to someone new to Linux, it can be overwhelming. I think the most challenging part is finding a friendly community that will help with your troubleshooting.

I mean, installing it is kind of easy but using it is entirely different specially if you have to jump through terminal commands like when I updated Citra, I had to fix it using a terminal at some point.

Something tells me their user base use the "but I'm too poor to pay for software!" argument a lot.

And upgrading to ten... I've seen quite a few laptops that simply became a slog to use on windows 10, but where modern Linux mint as a great experience.
I seriously doubt they'd handle a switch emulator well, though.

Win 10 destoryed a 6700k and 1070gtx because win10 had no idea how to find drivers right and asigned it a gt710 driver to it fried the card pretty fast that was annoying.

As a .NET developer, this is understandable. For example, I wasn't able to use async await for years because I needed to support Windows XP.

Yuzu holds the higher ground anyways, since long ago, and its userbase is way bigger. This won't affect many people, so they mostly did this in order to focus they efforts into a better, more competitive alternative to Yuzu

For those still somehow on windows 8.1 or older, you would probably feel comfortable on Linux mint. However, a customized version of Windows 10 called 'Tiny 10' can supposedly run on only 1 GB of ram, also Windows 11 Lite can reportedly run on a miniscule 256 mb of ram... I am not sure I believe that one myself.

Installing it isn't the complicated part. Finding anything worth installing afterwards is. And that is only the beginning. Telling people who are afraid to move to Windows 10 to install something like Linux is hilariously bad advice. No wonder those in the know use Yuzu instead.
