I just bought a wii u guy said it was already modded.

So I get it home, the wii u controller thingy with the screen Is not synced with the wii u and as soon as I turn it on I see cbhc by fix48 and then it goes straight to Homebrew channel with no apps cause the guy kept the sd card........lol

any ideas

If it were me, I'd get an SD card, put CBHC onto it, load the Wii U, uninstall CBHC using the app that should appear on the Homebrew Launcher now, and then install Tiramisu.

Did you reach out and ask the seller to give you the SD card or at least AN SD card with the files copied over to it?

Press home when you see the cbhc screen, then select system menu for autoboot or put cbhc and homebrew channel on an SD card, and uninstall cbhc, b button when it asks to install or uninstall.

ok I got the apps to show now I need to work on getting the controller to sync
Since no controller is paired you won't be able to change the CBHC menu options, but the fact that it autoboots to HBL means you should be able to pair a regular wiimote at this point..

Try this.........

With the HomeBrew Launcher open

1. On the Console - press the little red sync button and hold it in ( this is important, dont release the red button)

2. On the back of the WiiMote - with your free hand, press the little sync button and then release it on the back of the Wiimote (note that at this point you're still holding the console red button )
No UI will come up, but within a few seconds your wiimote should be paired (1'st led light up)

** If the WiiMote did not sync, start over at step1 above.. If after a few attempts it still doesn't work, then instead of holding in the red sync button the console, you can press the sync button twice instead of holding it in..

3. If the Wiimote has synced, you can press the Home Button on the WiiMote - ( depending on which version of HBL you have it will either spit you back out to SystemMenu , OR it will spit you out to MiiMaker )

4. If Miimaker, then you can press the "Home" button again, this time using the D-Pad to navigate and select "Close Software" , and then it should hopefully spit you out to System Menu..

5. Now try to sync the GamePad with the console. To do this, you double press the red sync button on the console and the pairing UI window will come up => link

In general when you can launch the SysMenu, just double pushing the sync button on the console will bring up the pairing window, but this does not work when HBL is open, hence the need to "hold down" the red button at step1

I just tried these steps with a brand new Wiimote ( though I am using Tiramisu and not CBHC ) but I was able to pair a new remote in HBL using the steps above...

Once you have the remote or gamepad synced, on the next boot up you can hold down the Home Button which will allow you to change the CBHC autoboot settings back to System Menu instead of Home Brew Launcher.

Good luck!

I've got an idea. put the dark menu plugin mod on the sd card, replace the homebrew_launcher with it. plugins folder goes in the wiiu folder on root.

you can do that as well. hopefully it doesn't require the gamepad or something within the cbhc uninstaller. did you try my suggestion with the dark menu? it should be into the wii u menu that way. just rename the folder to homebrew_launcher and replace the one you have on your sd card. don't forget about the plugin. this manager doesn't need any button presses, so it should work.

let us know if it works. that's a funky problem you have there, not something I thought of might happen to someone.

yeah I was thinking the same thing... Exiting HBL should not spit you out to vWii .. maybe there's something else messed up with the console.

@tommaloney , definitely try the dark theme suggestion from @godreborn , that's genius!!

If that doesn't work, I would definitely do a NandBackup next (so that you at least get the opt.bin file) before trying your CBHC uninstall in case there's something else going on with the console.

backing up the nand is a good idea. I don't know if it will read a wiimote though, because you have to press A to start it. you only need your otp.bin, because you can read the nand before or after. either way, it doesn't matter, since you probably don't have a nand backup from before cbhc or the seller didn't supply you with one. then, you can use cbhc remover (part of nand tools). essentially cbhc backs up the system.xml, renames it syshax.xml, then leaves a modified title id in the system.xml, which is how cbhc boots up by default. cbhc remover will delete the modified system.xml and rename syshax.xml back to system.xml, thus removing cbhc autobooting.

rename the folder I gave you to homebrew_launcher, the put it in wiiu/apps. overwrite the homebrew_launcher folder that's in there.
