I installed Retroarch to be able to play n64 games, and while some games run ok, I noticed quite a few performance issues, especially when there's more going on. And even just sound stuttering for bomberman64 and other things.

I don't know at all how to set things up for best performance, so I was wondering if anyone knew what was the best way to get the most out of it?

mupen64 +overclocking. It isn't perfect and there are quite a few issues unfortunately. You may get better performance in Android or Lakka, but it still probably wont be stellar.

I don't know how I feel about overclocking. I haven't looked into it either.
I also haven't done anything around android.

Anything or settings that help with regularly?

No "magic fix" to performance aside from overclocking. You can mess with settings on a per game basis to get the best performance for that game

A lot of the games' sound stutter, is there a setting in retroarch (mupen core I think) to fix that?

Overclocking via Retroarch has been for me at least; Mostly harmless aside from chewing the battery a bit faster, i use BSNES as a core for a 1:1 type experience and i do use Mupen as well and i get more than decent mileage. It only sticks to retroarch and can be turned on/off on the fly. Just do it, not much to lose and not many have suffered from it for the time it's been an option.
