I've seen more than enough black screens caused by themes on the internet. I'm on OFW 11.0.0 and CFW 11.0.0 on SXOS 3.1.0 beta. What should I do to not brick anything? Other than updating while haven't deleted the themes folder, in what way are bricks from themes caused? Lastly, is there a specific brick caused by a theme that can't be unsolved by simply deleting the themes folder from the sd card?

Yes and no. If you dont know if its safe and isn't gbatemp source then maybe it is not safe for you. Trust GBATEMP and you will be fine. Here:

Themes do not cause bricks; a black screen is not equivalent to a brick, they are 2 completely different things. A black screen is a screen that is black while a brick prevents your console from working. Black screens are just error codes that indicates that either the user has done something incorrectly or there is a problem with one or more files on the SD card such as the theme.
