Controls work fine for me in RetroArch. Maybe provide some more details?

Well nothing more to add. I downloaded retroarch and started up N64 game, and controls aren't working there

Delete old retroarch config files if there’s any, most of the times that does the trick.

I'll give it a try but it's freshly installed so it shouldn't be a problem

Which controls exactly...

If buttons work but the left analog stick isn't doing anything, check for analog to digital type under inputs/port 1. Make sure this is set to off.
