Hey guys ! So, I'm sorry if this ends up being a (very) long post, but I'll post a bit of background to explain what's wrong in the best way possible.
So, I bought this 3DS a few years ago. It was a used one, Majora's Mask New 3DS XL, but in very good condition. So, I put Luma on it (I use it as a streaming console, and can't mod it to get a capture card, so NTR is all I have), and everything was good for a few years.
Problem came last year (yeah, this took a year to post, I'll explain why in a bit, even if that's not relevant). I was playing it and I noticed a place on my upper screen was flickering. It was like a line on screen, like 2cms wide, from to bottom to the top of the screen, perfectly straight, and it went from dark to bright, flickering on and off like a used neon. Didn't think much of it but I kept my eye on it. Next day, it was still there, but a bit wider (not by much). In the coming days, that section was just darker (not black, just like the backlight was turned off), and another section had started flickering in the same way. In the span of a few days, almost all my screen was just either darker, or flickering. Then, someday, I turned on the console, there was a "POP", and it never turned on again.
Right now, if I turn the console on, the blue LED showing it's on will turn on for an instant (less than a second), then turn off.
So, last year, I gave the console to my brother so he could try and fix it. I'm the software guy, he's the hardware guy, and I'm so bad with hardware I didn't want to break something. It took him a year (hence why I'm saying all of this now) to have a look at it. He did not find anything clearly wrong with the console, just a ribbon cable that was a bit damaged, but from what he said to me, it was the lower screen one. Upper screen seems to be good, no damage whatsoever anywhere.
So, I'd love to ask, does anybody have ANY IDEA on what it could be ? I'll try having him update the Luma payload on SD Card, but I don't think it would change anything tbh. My biggest fear is that I'd have to change screens or that just the console died and can't be repaired, which would be a major loss for me as I really REALLY love that console, it's the only collector's edition console I ever bought and it holds a special place in my heart, so I would be sad if it were just dead honestly.
Don't hesitate if you need any more infos, photos or anything else, i'll try and provide them asap. Thanks in advance for all the help. Cheers
