It's been a couple of years since I haven't touched my old 3DS XL and decided to start replaying some games recently. I have tried manually updating some of the applications I already had on there and it's been giving me issues, especially Luma3DS (tried to drag and replace the .firm and .3dsx I had with new ones). I'm also a noob at this so please bare with me.

I have the latest version on my 3DS which is the 11.14.0-46U (I read that it was safe to update).
FBI is also updated and works with the latest version which is 2.6.0.

If I turn off my 3DS and hold select when I turn it back on this is what I get:

Luma3DS v7.1 configuration
Press A to select, START to save
Screen brightness 4(x)
Splash Off(x)
PIN lock Off(x)
() Enable loading external FIRMs and modules
() Enable game patching
(x) Show NAND or user string in System Settings
() Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM
() Patch SVC/service/archive/ARM9 access
() Set developper UNITINFO
() Enable exception handlers
--
Enable showing the current NAND/FIRM:
* Sys = SysNAND
* Emu = EmuNAND 1
* EmuX = EmuNAND X
* SysE = SysNAND with EmuNAND 1 FIRM
* SyEX = SysNAND with EmuNAND X FIRM
* EmuS = EmuNAND 1 with SysNAND FIRM
*EmXS = EmuNAND X with SysNAND FIRM

I've tried following a sthetix youtube video that showed me how to update manually Luma3DS by dragging the .3dsx and .firm files to the root of my SD card but it doesn't update when I launch the Luma3DS configuration screen (still stuck at 7.1)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

it looks like you might be using a9lh (arm9loaderhax.bin). update to b9s using the 3ds guide.
I'm following the steps from the 3ds guide and when I try to launch SafeB9SInstaller (power + start) it boots up Godmode 9 instead, is that normal?

you didn't follow the steps
"Delete any existing .bin payloads in the /luma/payloads/ folder on your SD card as they will not be compatible with boot9strap compatible Luma3DS versions"

I didn't have any
The only thing I had inside the file was the GodMode9.firm

you can follow this guide to print out a text version of your sd card, make sure to do the extra subdirectory step. This will help people here debug https://www.groovypost.com/tips/print-contents-folder-windows-10/
"If you want to go a step further, you can print the contents of subfolders by issuing the following command: tree “c:\directory_name” > “c:\file_name.txt” /A /F" this is the step I mentioned to do that is extra

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

do the command prompt version

The extra subdirectory step is to print out a text version of the subfolder payloads?
