Thanks Chief, that answers all my questions.

Just sold my xbox one x which had quick loading for retroarch, now only have a Wii U and an ancient laptop that cannot run anything without overheating, so think I will give RA a miss for now.
Fast loads times are possible on 1.8.8 if you delete the info and assets folders and don't use playlists (this includes "Load Recent"). You'll need to manually load cores and ROMs but most games should load in 2-3 seconds. Some menu drivers are also faster than others.

I think part of the holdup with these longstanding issues is that the Wii U port hasn't been updated to build with a current devkitpro version in some time. There was a recent thread with some work being done toward that.

Thank you Chief for the information. Honestly I didn't update my Wii U RA since long ago because it was working fine.
I noticed new RA builds are noticeably larger than old builds (200 MB vs 90 MB) maybe it has something to do with the new kit?

I will check and see what's included to make them so large (Edit: Just checked it seems many new cores are included but they are still just for old consoles. Nice work RA developers).

I see, looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel. Only thing is that I use P-UAE and the updates from last month or so are really awesome so would rather wait for a current devkit pro version build when this project from the link is finished. Thanks for the info.

I think they just started including the assets so you don't have to download them separately. I usually delete them anyway for the aforementioned reasons, but I only use Rgui so it's no loss either way.

You can disable this from 1.9.0 onward by enabling "View advanced options" in the menus, which should enable an additional setting for Cores where you can disable core reloading. Several other points of slowdown were discussed some pages back.
Great news I totally missed! It's time to update my RA ! :)

Any sign of fixing retroarch not recognizing Wii U Pro or Wii U Gamepad?

I’m still on 1.88 and just upgraded the Genesis GX wide Core to check it out but it brings with it the controller curse bug of 1.90. No Wii U remotes will respond. I tried plugging in a USB keyboard and the menu responds to that but there’s no way to get the Wii U controllers working.

They need to fix this bug.

Which cores are the best for which platform and is there a reason to do VC injects over just playing in RA? I know NES and SNES VCs have crappy emulation but what about the others?

I know DS and N64 aren’t available in Wii U RA.

It's always the three of us xDD hahahahhah lmao, i even offered a bounty and still nothing.
The last die hards :)
The TriiU :P
But indeed, even though I have a Switch, I still hope for Mupen and any PSX core to make it to the WiiU some day.
Same, I have my Switch but always look to the WiiU. It deserved so much better.
