I've recently acquired a switch from ebay exploitable, but not turning in or anything.
I have tried to replace the battery, plugged in my amp meter reads 0.20v without battery, 0.46v when the battery is hooked even if you leave it for 1hour.
I have checked all known bad chips and nearby capacitors for shorts I got nothing! No shorts to ground in the nearby components near pi3usb, m92t36, bq24193 and max77620a.
I also checked some known bad resistors .
Tried checking in dc mode with my multimeter, battery connector is reading 5v, and also capacitors around..
I AM COMPLETELY CLUELESS!
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THAT SWITCH?

Hello,

are you sure the USB C port is working proper and the port is not damaged?

You are writing:

"I have tried to replace the battery, plugged in my amp meter reads 0.20v without battery, 0.46v when the battery is hooked even if you leave it for 1hour."

The Amp meter reads A not V. Are there 0,46V or A? If there are A, at what voltage?

Best regards

Oh sorry my bad.
0.46A , yeah the usb type c is probably okay, cause nearby capacitors read 5v and even on the backside lots of other complement do as well.
Also one of the battery connectors reads 5v,I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong woth the charging port, and even if there was, the switch should boot with a known working battery.
Thank you for your answer tho.

I have recently replaced the battery IC chip although they weren't any shorts around, with no success..
The switch doesn't turn on and stays in 0.46A ..
Any ideas?
Thank you

Check for shorts around the cpu area (front side of the board) on the caps.
If that's the problem, the cpu has been fried and there's no fix

But doesn't the cpu have low resistance and nearby capacitors would usually beep?
And even if the cpu id fried wouldn't reballing it with a bga station solve the issue?
Thank you

Not that low. The threshold for the continuity checker is something like 0.2 ohm. That would constitute a direct short.
No. Cracked solder balls would be solved by reballing. It's not going to do anything for a fried chip.

Have you follow the battery to the chips? Maybe it's just a filter broken on the way to the battery?

So you're suggesting I should test cpu caps in ohm mode not in continuity mode, and check for something below 0.3ohm?
Also the CPU will never be fried(unless you inject very high voltage to the board), it's only solder joints that get bridge underneath it no?
I have 3 switches that I bought out of ebay that have the same problem, they're all in 0.46a with a battery plugged in and a usb amp meter connected.
I don't think the cpu is dead on all 3 of em ..

I have followed them, there's usually a small resistance between the charging chip and the other chip near the battery connector, additionally a big resistance that checked okay with continuity mode tho..
I'm not finding any shorts around and yet it's not doing anything even if it's stays plugged in for too long

Try holding the power button for about 1 min. then use tegra rcm to boot
How would it boot to rcm mode if it's not even showing a single sign of life?

    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.

the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze

but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
