OC is completely safe because you aren't really overclocking. The ic is binned to run at higher speeds but nintendo downclocks it for battery life.

so there's no risk of overheating the console? when docked, the switch does not seem to be a king at keeping the heat away... it gets quite hot (at stock speed, haven't OC yet)

depends on the game imo, my Switch reached close to 70 degrees in Crysis remastered with full clock. Meanwhile in Hyrule Warriors the hight I got was around 63 degrees.
these numbers are with a modded dock with more ventilation.

I've tried OC during handheld (gpu to 537mhz and ram to 1600 mhz) and the temps were fine, cant remember exactly but around 50 degrees celsius and my fan wasn't running too fast either

My switch is docked but in a third party one. The fan goes high when I play Ryza since I overclocked a lot for smoother loading times. But it never seem to go over 75c

what is the max safe temp? which third party dock do you use? there's no risk of bricking with third party dock now?

It will shutdown before it breaks. My cooling is also different from normal switch since I put mx4 on it instead of the standard.

Yeah as long as they support PD it should be fine!

Really? Did you buy your Switch used without a dock? That's the only scenario I can imagine one wouldn't normally own a dock.

the idea was to have one dock downstairs and one dock upstairs... but the official dock is damn overpriced

edit: I did bought my switch used... thank god I bought it before the the switch's prices going insane

Well...it can't be too much of a hassle to just move the dock right? Its certainly pretty lightweight and its only 2 cables that need to be connected at least.

1.785 921 is a bad idea, even on charger, it wont matter, and temps are irrelevant, as unless you rip out the fan or temperature sensors, the cooling can handle it, and it will shutdown before any real damage can be done

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

the issue is powerdraw

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

the main misconception is that the soc can take it, and there for its safe. While the soc can very well go higher than what is allowed (1.7 921) the board just cant do that, it wasn't meant for that type of power draw
