couldn't say, but even if you self-ban, which is what a lot of people do, no one wants a banned console. even if you don't play online, it's still tainted and incomplete.

I've thought about going totally legit since I am with the switch, but I'd still keep my hacked or exploited systems to help you guys or dump things. I've thought about buying a superslim and some discs. can't buy a ps4 just yet since they're still expensive (probably buy a ps5 instead once they come out with a smaller model).

Sony will never have a public method unless forced by a government and no government is going to risk having Sony (or whatever) saying "fuck it" and also having to defend the court case wherein they argue "my service, my rules".
If they do about 5 minutes later then every banned user that has ever done a chain fetch quest in a game will do the strangers on a train (or in this case internet forum) and will swap with someone that they never had any contact with and each claim "got it second hand and...".

They might offer such a service to some kind of national chain second hand retailer (Gamestop, Game, CEX...) but even that will tend to not be the guys in the shop that can maybe open a case and clean a fan and is also mates with everybody in the local area (and having case opening tools also installs mod chips) but their high level team that might be 10 people in a workshop somewhere that gets the trouble cases, which even then is probably a return to manufacturer type deal.

Re "tainted and incomplete"
As ever my standard offer here is if someone has such a console and truly feels it a worthless device then I will take it off their hands for £20 plus shipping. It will take some work but I think I might be able to get something going on with disc based games. Saw similar things with 360s... only wish I had cleaned up more.

I feel sorry for the buyer but no way they lift a ban.

If Sony catches you with a CFW or anything hack related then you'll get an instant account ban+console ban for every console which is tied to it (except PSP/PSV for whatever reason). So no surprise here that a PS5 is banned.

I used a CFW PS3 for about 4 years (never played online only used PS+ services and played PS1 games which OFW did not support). They decided to ban me overnight. Lost an OFW PS3 and a CFW PS3. Vita was not affected. But my 355days remaining of PSPlus was gone as well + all bought games.

Sony won't lift any ban no matter how rediculous the story behind your situation is.

they won't ban every console you have if you're caught with cfw on one console. I don't think they can legally do that. the account ban, though, will affect every console it's on. you'll get an email if you get banned, so it's best to have a separate email account tied to each console, then monitor it from your phone or pc.

If I get banned from a theme park, pub, hotel, casino, funeral home... (or all five in what was one particularly memorable weekend) it tends to be me as a person that gets banned rather than my wallet. Sony would have no legal problems doing the same to gamers, indeed various game companies already might have in various capacities -- Overwatch saw some interesting ones where it was the PC itself get banned (some then looking to buy a new copy and set up a new account found themselves troubled -- https://www.technobuffalo.com/overwatch-ban-cheater-new-copy-format-computer ), some of that forum ban leading to account ban with was it Ubisoft the other year and Nintendo was seen to ping all a Switch hacker's linked devices (though later speculation was that there might have been a hack test on what was initially thought to be a clean device).

Legally speaking though it is a person or entity that wrongs you and a person or entity that suffers consequences. Most companies realise however they only need to send a message (and not even necessarily to them but the kids and parents thereof that don't necessarily consider online just a mild perk they might speak to on the forums), and having what might some of your most fervent users come back to buy another round of your premium online service*, possibly copy of game (or games in general -- don't know what goes for games in the modern world but https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2009/04/study-pirates-buy-tons-more-music-than-average-folks/ ), populate your servers with serious active players, and buy another instance of hardware gains you more than not that.

*if you were inclined to ban even attempts to rejoin then chances are they sign up to this with the same credit card (or linked to the same bank account, or maybe just bought in the same shop as a card), get all the same friends/guilds/clans back, play all the same games as a nice fingerprint there, might even use the same (or very similar) email address, might transfer the old profile to the new system...

Of course I did. It was an account which was worth at least 500$ (Bought tons of PSV games). They told me that there is nothing they could do to unlift the ban.

You are wrong. They ban every console you ever connected.
Had bought a brandnew PS3 as a replacement which I opened just to verify that it works. I logged in with my main account and did not use it anymore. After the ban happend and my CFW PS3 could not login with a freshly created PSN account I tried it on the OFW ps3 and guess what. I couldn't login. It was also banned.

then you must've gotten yourself banned there too. my ps4 and vita were not banned after my ps3 was banned. I checked both.

they're not going to know the idps of your other systems anyway. this is how it works:

I just know what happend to me. Used the OFW PS3 once and did not even play a single game on it.
At least my Vita wasn't banned.
Since then I stopped using any kind of hacks on Sony consoles which I connect my main account to. Honestly I don't care if they ban other consoles or not but they can decide to do it anytime. And if you violate their TOS it is game over. e.g. There are cases of banned accounts because level creator in the game 'Dreams' have used copyright material and some of them not even knowing that. It is this bad.

At least in Europe there is nothing you can do against this policy. The consumer rights are very loose when it comes to online/digital goods. You don't stand a single chance to win a legal action against them (we don't have class actions like the americans. Every case has to fight alone).

As convenient as it is to buy games digitally. As a consumer I don't like where this is going.

well, I've thought about going totally legit, but I'd still keep the exploited consoles (just buy new ones with new accounts). the reason is I'm kinda intrigued by trophies (wasn't before), and I don't want to get banned at some point, like if I forget to hide myself (if there's a way for the system), or whatever. I always figured that if I hacked the switch, I'd buy an already banned console, so I wouldn't have to worry about that. I don't want to lose everything by getting banned on a playstation system, if I start playing those games again. I haven't really played the playstation series of systems in years, aside from the ps2 that is.

When I started to earn money I bought most consoles twice. Exactly for these reasons ;)
OT:
My switch is still not banned but I erradicated PRODINFO and other serials/certs from it so it can't get banned. I am a bit hyped for the new monster hunter and since I need the 2nd switch for my partner and we play MH online with friends I have soon to go OFW with it again. Will be a fun time to restore it completely :D

If you want to buy physical discs only you'll be fine. But some games are digital only, and you won't be able to buy dlc for games. So you're missing a lot unless you don't care about anything but the disc game.

I'm on disability, so I can't afford much more than another ps3. I'm also trying to collect the unique switches (have the animal crossing one, and I'm about to have the red and blue Mario one). the ps4/5 is too expensive at the moment. I'd probably skip the ps4 and go straight for the ps5 when they come back in stock. however, I've heard they have a lot of software bugs like freezing and crashing.

I have monster hunter rise preordered on the eshop. I think I've played one demo of an earlier monster hunter game, but I haven't really played the series. I'm looking forward to it though.

That sucks, Sony are very unreasonable with these sorts of things as well. They make a good product, but their customer service sometimes angers me.

I agree. I can understand banning the system, but the fact that they ban the account too if cfw is detected makes me angry or it did make me angry, because it affected all of my systems. it's like they don't want you to go legit.

I used to play a random internet web game with some friends. One of them got banned, and then came over to my house and tried to log in, then I got banned along with my IP.
So, it could get worse... Still, paying that much for the hardware to only be locked out of a lot of its functionality is crazy.
