Hacking "IOS 249 is a stub" error

I'm trying to set up my old Wii for my nephews, and it's been a while since I did anything with it. In fact the activity checker on the system itself notes that it was last touched in January 2012! A bit longer than I thought. I think the last thing of anything I did with it was something about transferring the games I had on the external hard drive over to the Wii U, but again it's been eight years since I did anything with it so I really don't remember, and I don't know if it required doing anything on the Wii's side of things - probably not. In the case that it didn't, I'm confused as to why there's suddenly an issue if nothing has changed since it was last used to load these games.

In trying to play games connected to the hard drive, Configurable USB Loader tells me the message in the title above. Looking around for this error on Google I followed a guide that told me to use d2x Custom IOS Installer to install -

CIOS <v10 beta53 d2x-v10-beta53-alt> base 56 slot 249

What happens is that it says it's downloading IOS37 metadata, getting the cetk file, then gives me the following error -

TMD Version wrong 5662 != 5918

ERROR(s) occurred during cIOS249 v10 beta53 d2x-v10-beta53-alt-vWii base 56 rev21010 installation

A poster on Reddit replying to someone who had the same issue said to install -

IOS247 with base IOS37

IOS248 with base IOS58

IOS249 with base IOS56

IOS250 with base IOS57

But, trying to do even the first gives me the following error -

TMD Version wrong 5663 != 5662

ERROR(s) occurred during cIOS249 d2x v6 base 37 rev21006 installation

I will also note that on loading d2x it also gives an error -

mxml: Bad control character 0x0e not allowed by XML standard!

So I'm relying on you guys to help me as I have no clue what's going on and it's been so long that I don't remember anything to do with softmodding the Wii. I posted this exact thread on r/WiiHacks and the only real advice I've gotten so far is to begin the whole thing again and mod using wii.guide, but I'd rather just fix what's wrong rather than using a very general guide that assumes I'm doing everything for the first time.

Any help you guys can give me would be great.

Thanks for replying. Again, it's been years, so I have no idea how to do this. Is this an app in the Homebrew Channel that I already should have?

Use the above to get a Syscheck.csv log, then open it on your windows pc using the Modmii application, then follow your custom built guide

Hey XFlak, thanks again for replying to me and helping me. I have included here the results of the SysCheck, the reason for doing so is that I don't know what to do with ModMii, as it's been so long that I don't know what method I used to softmod the system or what was updated or anything. So hopefully you'll be able to see what's in this result and be able to tell me what I need to do with Modmii.

sysCheck Updater
Syscheck is a homebrew application you can run on wii's that have already been modified. As its name implies, it will CHECK your SYStem and save a report to your SD card. If you open your sysCheck.csv log with ModMii it will analyze your setup and identify which mods are out of date. ModMii will prompt you to download only the files required to update your softmod and build a custom guide for you to follow.

You can analyze a log by dragging it onto ModMii.exe or a shortcut for it - or you can launch the syscheck updater from ModMii's main menu and browse for your log like a caveman

Basically just install ModMii, then drag your syscheck.csv onto ModMii.exe, and follow the prompts

Thanks man, that is potentially a big help. However Configurable USB Loader is still complaining about IOS249 being a stub. I don't actually have the hard drive that was connected to it - that will have to wait until Friday or thereabouts - so I can't test if other USB loaders are working. Should I update Configurable USB Loader or something?

No, u need to install a non-stubbed cios249, if u followed the steps I suggested above this should be remedied

Edit: no harm in updating your loader as well, but it won't solve your issue

Well I did as you said, I copied the CSV file over to Modmii, it said it needed to update a few things, it did so, and I copied them onto the SD card as it told me. Configurable USB Loader is still complaining about IOS 249 being a stub, though.

It's not enough to just copy the files to your sd card (facepalm, lol, edit: although this is enough to update HBC apps so I guess I can see why you may have come to that conclusion). A custom html guide would have also popped up when using Modmii's syscheck updater wizard (this should still be saved to your copy to SD folder), follow this guide, one of the steps will have u install an optimal cios249 wad

Oh, dear. Well as I said, anything to do with cIOS, WADs and Wii softmodding in general seems to have flown out of my brain-pan quite a while ago, so apologies for my being a bit slow!
