I’m hoping to gain (and share) some clarity here, as I’ve struggled to grasp some concepts around firmware updates, when it comes to Mariko.

I’ve a Mariko switch with SX Core, running SXOS on EmuNAND.

I am on OFW 10.1 and created EmuNAND from that (backed up multiple times).

I now need to update to 10.2 to run a certain piece of software.

Here’s what I’m unclear about:

1) If I only update the CFW to 10.2 via ChoiDUjourNX, then surely that’s a massive red flag to Ninty when I then boot 10.1 OFW as there’ll be a fuse mismatch? I’m assuming here that fuses are always blown on a FW update as you cannot select “do not blow fuses” in ChoiDuJourNX on Mariko units?

2) If I update OFW to 10.2, then my fuse count will be higher than my EmuNAND backup, so do I then need to do a whole new backup (I’m assuming I cannot restore an older CFW than the Fuse count expects and so my CFW backup becomes unusable every time I update OFW)?

I suspect I’ve mis-assumed at least one piece of information, but I’m just not clear from what I’ve read (mostly because I’m Mariko).

Thanks !

Booting to emuNAND never burns fuses.
SX bootloader doesn't burn fuses and bypass the fuse check.
(But 'genuine boot' can burn fuses, and it checks fuses)
I think you don't need to worry about fuse count :)

So the fact I’ve got SX Core means fuses become irrelevant as it bypasses/overcomes the check?

also, so I can always restore my SysNAND, no matter what?

I would update sysnand to 10.2 while its still the latest

and when updating emunand make sure you disable autorcm by tapping it before you start the update

as atm 10.2 maybe the last firmware for sxos and yes u can use "reset to factory defaults" when you want to start fresh

yes with the modchip fuse count is irrelevant. it would only matter if your fuse count doesn't match the firmware and you wanted to use genuineboot.

the different between boot original and genuineboot is original boot still skips fuse check with no cfw and genuineboot will use the normal bootloader and will check fuse count

Fuses are always irrelevant in CFW.

You still can't downgrade sysNAND to a lower version. Or at least you shouldn't. I don't know if the exploit happens early enough in the boot process to bypass the initial fuse check, and messing with sysNAND is never a good idea, when you don't have RCM as a fallback. As long as you're restoring the same version, yes. I would be very careful with restoring sysNAND though as there might be mismatched logs which can result in a ban. You should never have to restore sysNAND anyway, because you should never mess with it so nothing can go wrong.

Can't the software you wanna run be patched down using NSC_Builder to run on 10.1?
I'm on exactly the same setup as you and just did the above to run ACNH 1.5 rather than update.

yes you can and you can do this in tinfoil in the options to ignore software version. but its not a grantee to work so test per game
