I have 2, one is supposed to be my father's and the other just because.

I'm thinking about hacking that little thing in order to install Retroarch, but I'm not sure if that's even possible.

So I have some questions:

1: How easy it's to hack it nowadays?
2: Can I install Retroarch on it?
3: If not, what can I do with a hacked NES Mini?

Thanks in advance!

@JuanMena , if you have any questions about the nes, snes, or genesis minis, I'll try to answer. they probably won't answer you in the hakchi thread. when I was a noob, no one ever replied to my questions in there. I learned most things on my own, since no one replied. I have retroarch installed on all of those systems with a button combo to get into the menu.

Ok, will think about this...

I guess, If I can find Pro WIi controllers to hook'em onto the NES Mini to play Retroarch comfortably, then I guess I'd definitely hack one NES Mini.

8bitdo controllers are fantastic. they're shaped like nes controllers but they have additional buttons like turbo buttons for A and B and a reset back to game catalogue button. I love that button. they're real comfortable. unfortunately, they didn't add a reset button to the genesis or snes mini controllers. you just have to flip reset to get back to the game catalogue. it's that by default with the snes mini but not with the genesis mini. that one was frustrating getting everything just right.

@JuanMena , I found something that is kinda shitty about retroarch on the minis. I updated my nes, snes, and genesis minis along with cores, and for some reason, your settings are not saved. it's not such a big deal with the nes/snes minis, but the genesis mini is a pita to get everything back. there's a bug with it to where going into settings causes player 2 to work only. you have to disable "other users can change settings" or something to that effect to force player 1 to be able to do anything.

there's no longer a small bar on the side with 16x9 mode on the nes mini. the bar is due to emulation as it's even present on the wii u vc in 4x3 mode. it's no longer present with the latest. btw, I suggest you install c-8 deterrent especially if you get a flash drive for more games. it used to do that sometimes, because I had too many games. now, I never get any errors.

Thanks for the information pal.

I'm still thinking about it.

btw, you can dump the dash kernel. if you forget, you can reflash using another system's as long as it's the same region. I'd suggest using the ce version of hakchi if you get an nes mini. it's the best version imo. I've flashed about 20 times, and I've never had issues with the kernel.

Hack it. Just hack it. If it's hard to hack, then hack it. Hack it, just hack it.

Every console must have Battletoads. Best game ever. Hope it gets remade one day or the character gets added to smash

you could put battletoads on any mini with the right retroarch core. I was talking with someone about this a few months ago in pm on here, but we both put just games for that particular console on the system. the flash is big enough on the nes mini to accommodate all nes games for one region. if you go beyond that, you need an otg device and a flash drive. the one I linked to is the perfect one (never had it not detect games), but I have had that happen with the one that goes in a right angle (the small one). do note that if you use the same cable and flash drive for multiple systems like I do for the snes and genesis minis, it won't save what game you were on for the previous mini it was plugged in to. if you only use it for one, it will. small complaint, but it's a fantastic device.
