Homebrew now whut

i know this might seem like a dumb question to some, but i'm kind of stuck here and don't want to proceed blind and brake something. I got homebrew channel added and I didn't click bootmii "as iso" yet (the only option available.) should I? and what do I do from here? I haven't searched the forums but there are so many options and this is all over such a long span of time that I don't really know where to go from here.

The main things I want the wii and homebrew for are for playing my backed up games (I own) how can I make backups of wii games and how can I load the isos (preferably from DVD, but from iso/usb would be ok too.

some light emulation sNEs, NEs, GBA mostly

some apps, like file explorers and whatever other must have or cool apps would be appreciated.

How can I accomplish these tasks? Does anyone have a few minutes to throw at me and tell me how to, or provide some links to tutorials to accomplish these tasks?

All Iv'e managed so far was adding the homebrew channel to my wii. Can I delete those files from my sD now?? and I added a folder on root of sD named "apps." That is it.

BootMii should be installed as Secondary Boot (holding RESET whike Wii is being turned on)

About creating your own backups, there are homebrew tools to do them.
One of them is USB LOADER GX

And USB LOADER GX will ve able to mount and read isos from USB as long as it's formated to FAT32 at 32kb cluster size.

About emulation, you have two choices:

• Stand alone emulators
• Retroarch

Any of those has it's own fun stuff to play with.

File explorers... I've never used any, but they're definitely out there.

In order to accomplish it just make sure HOMEBREW CHANNEL is installed on ios80 and install all necessary cIOS-es.

1. Yes, it is recommended to install BootMii as an IOS, however, that alone won't help you recover from a brick. For that you would also need Priiloader (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Priiloader). *Note the multiple warnings*
2. Backup loading from a DVD is very outdated, and it is much more recommended to use either Wiiflow Lite, or USBLoader GX. Both are pretty easy to install, and they both require D2X CIOSes. *Guide found here (https://wii.guide/cios.html)* Setup for WiiFlow Lite can be found here (https://gbatemp.net/threads/wiiflow-lite.422685/) and setup for USBLoader GX can be found here (https://wii.guide/usbloadergx.html). Choose either one that you want. Both have their own pros and cons.
3. For emulation, I'd recommend FCEUGX for NES games (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/FCE_Ultra_GX), SNES9XGX for SNES games (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Snes9x_GX), and VBAGX for GBA games (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Visual_Boy_Advance_GX)
4. For a file manager, I'd recommend WiiXplorer (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/WiiXplorer).

I’ve liked wiixplorer, but if you have internet on your wii, the homebrew browser and ftpii will make your life easier for getting the stand-alone emulators and all other homebrew.
Also, I use cfgusbloader and load everything from my sdcard. Cfgusbloader will also works very well with nintendont. The wii is a fantastic homebrew machine.

I just realized when I installed the homebrew channel I don't think I ever installed bootmii..can I go back and do it?

What format do burned DVDs need to be? Iso or wfbs? I'd rather just burn DVDs since the only SD card I have that the Wii will read is 16gb and it's the one from my phone

What is all this being installed on iOS80 stuff if I messed up my install can I format the Wii and do the letterbomb again? Sorry if I'm remedial about all this.theres so many options for everything,I get overwhelmed

Yes, you can go back and install BootMii, just rerun the homebrew installer from letterbomb and click the BootMii option instead of the Homebrew Channel.
I really don't recommend playing backups from a DVD for multiple reasons, but if you want to, get a DVD-R for every game you want to burn ( 1 game a disc), burn the entire ~4.2 GB ISO file to the disc at 3X speed maximum. On the Wii, you will need cIOS 249/250, and a Disc backup loader like NeoGamma.

Don't format your Wii. There is basically a 0% chance homebrew didn't install correctly. You most likely have IOS 80 already installed, but that doesn't matter because all you need is IOS 56, which you also should have. You would know if not.

i can get the emulators/roms working and other apps like the file browser and LoaderGX and WiiFlow lite working but i can't for the life of me get the backups themselves to be seen by either the SD card or my 2TB USB thumb drive what am i doing wrong. i think I'm getting the file/folder structure wrong...im not getting the whole what needs to use the games ID and what doesn't and if a NTSC drive can be used for usb...i tried using backup manager on pc and i can't get that working right either it keeps giving an error when i try to load or format anything.

Your drive should be formatted to Fat32 with 32k clusters. Wii games go in a folder named "wbfs" and GameCube games go in a folder called "games" (Without the quotes). USB thumb drives are known to be kinda iffy with Wii support, so an external HDD is more commonly used.
