Hi there,
I installed CBHC about 3 or 4 years ago. I can't remember how to get back into the Homebrew channel to install new games.

The WiiU basically just launches into CFW automatically or, from time to time, I just click on the HAXCHI icon on the gamepad (or alternatively the DS VC game that I used to install CBHC, which currently has the exclamation mark icon "Start"). Either way I get a quick black screen with white text telling me that it's launching Haxchi and then it just goes into the WiiU menu. It is so seamless that I can't remember where I have to go now to launch the Homebrew channel!
More specifically, the message that appears on screen for a couple of seconds is:
CHBC v1.6 by FIX94 (DS Title [a long number])
Autobooting

The WiiU works fine after that, but I wanted to install another game with WUPInstaller, and I think I need to access HBL first for this. I've also tried holding down A on boot up but that didn't seem to do anything either.

Can someone please remind me how to do this?

Many thanks.

So you have CFW but you don't have the HBL on your menu? Have you tried to use the browser exploit to get access to the HBL from there? Do you still have the HBL files on your SD card?

You should install the homebrew launcher as a channel, so it's easier to launch it, instead of using haxchi (which you don't have anymore).

do you have an SD card inserted ?
Do you have the homebrew launcher elf to the correct place ? (if I remember correctly, it should be wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/homebrew_launcher.elf)

launch the "do not touch" icon, or just power off your console and power on again, press home button when you see the CBHC info on screen to go into the CBHC menu.
from here, you should be able to launch HBL, if you have it on SD.

ATTENTION : launching HBL doesn't patch the firmware!
If you launch HBL from boot, you are NOT in CFW. if you launch from "don't touch me" you already are in CFW.
if you need to install an unsigned channel but launched HBL from boot (without CFW), you'll need to launch a firmware patcher first from HBL (for example, sigpatch2HBL !)
sigpatch2HBL is great because it patches the firmware into CFW and goes back to HBL directly. from here, you'll be able to run WUP installer and install the HBL channel.

Then, next time, boot the console normally, and use the new HBL channel when you want to go to HBL.
HBL doesn't patch the firmware, but CBHC already did.

Edit:
I didn't provide any links, but all I mentionned are easily findable on the wikitemp !
go into WiiU > wiiu homebrew > cfw > to get the fw patcher.

here it is : https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/List_of_WiiU_custom_firmwares
https://github.com/dimok789/sign_patcher/releases/tag/v0.1
and HBL as elf (1.x) and as channel (2.x) :

If you don't have the hbl anymore, launch the cbhc app again when you are in the home menu and press the home button on the gamepad when the autobooting message appears. And then launch the hbl. With the files on the sd card in the correct location of course. Install it via wup installer and you should be fine.

Hi,
I do have an SD card instered and it does have the right files in it... but now that I remember, does it need to be formatted FAT32? I'll do that next as my card was NTFS formatted.
Holding home didn't do anything (but maybe it's because of the card formatting issue).
I'll look into sigpatch2HBL once I manage to get into HBL.
In the meantime I'll try with the card formatting to see if that helps.
Thanks, and thanks @tfocosta for the response too.

you need FAT32.
I never saw any app or OS needing the SD card formated as NTFS.
FAT32 or exFAT, but never NTFS. why that format?
anyway, just format as FAT32 and it should fix your problem :)

if you get any negative error code, here are the meaning :

Hi, That did the trick. Also, worth noting that I had to press the Home button exactly when the CHBC info appeared - if I pressed it before, it didn't recognise it. As the CHBC info is only on the screen for a couple of seconds you really have to jump on it :)

I have no idea why I had an SD card in my drawer formatted to NTFS and with the right files on it... I just assumed that it was the right card because of the files it had but obvioulsy it wasn't. I also checked the SD card that was in my WiiU and that turned out to be a FAT32 card also with the right files on (by the right files I mean the usual suspects: in the root of the SD card folders cbhc, haxchi, install and wiiu. In particular, I have confirmed that the homebrew launcher elf is in wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/homebrew_launcher.elf).

Thanks, and thanks to @BaarnAlex for helping out too!

Regarding sigpatch2HBL; I have managed to install an unsigned channel and it seems to work fine without it. Perhaps this is the reason why sometimes my games will not run until I have run haxchi? I have found that the disc based channels always launch, but when I launch some of the others it gives an error along the lines of "the user that installed this software has been deleted from this system". What I have to do then is simply launch haxchi manually and then those games run fine. Are you saying that I would always be able to run those games if I use sigpatch2HBL?

If you have cbhc, you don't need that. CBHC gives you already signature patches after powering on the console.

Yes, that has always confused me to be honest. It seemed to work that way when I originally installed it: as soon as the WiiU was powered on, it would go into the CHBC autobooting menu. But after a while I must have done something and it stopped doing that. Maybe it was choosing a game for direct lauching from the gamepad when I start the console? Whatever it was, for the last couple of years I've found that only the disc-based games in the HDD lauch directly and any other software I have to select Haxchi first (either from the start menu or from the "Start" icon with the "!".
It's not a huge problem to be honest so I have never worried too much about it. But it would be nice to get rid of this nuisance if there is an easy way, that's why I was asking.

if you have CBHC, you normally don't have haxchi (the normal haxchi, not coldboot) anymore. unless you installed CBHC and Haxchi on 2 different NDS games!
you need to run haxchi once manually to patch the FW when you don't have CBHC doing it automatically at boot.

if your CBHC is set to autoboot sysmenu, you shouldn't need to patch anything manually.
be sure your autoboot is properly set to sysmenu.

Hey, I used to have CBHC installed and running and blocking updates with the DNS method. However, my console recenlty updated cause I totally forgot about the block and updated it when I changed connection. CBHC is gone and my forwarders don't work anymore, however the "do not touch" icon is still there. How am I supposed to reinstall CBHC? Just follow a guide ignoring the fact it was installed already or do I need to follow some special procedure?

Is the WiiU hack dead? Every month we are losing different services and games within the console.

Are we ready for the eShop to close or to stop playing online?

Haxchi and CBHC depend on having a game purchased and associated with the Nintendo account, which will be impossible in the not too distant future when you buy a used console.

Wii and 3DS and even Switch you can practically do whatever you want with those consoles however WiiU has been forgotten even by the homebrew community

If you care about the future, buy a compatible game and never uninstall it. Problem solved.

No.

The problem is not mine but all those who will buy the WiiU after the Eshop closes will have it.

I think of others and not only myself.
Today you can buy a Wii, look for the mac adress, receive a LetterBomb and you are ready to go.
In the case of 3DS, you put a file in an SD and then load it through the Sound application or ask a friend for an r4 card or similar.

I suppose that WiiU is much more complicated, however I see how fast Switch was (omitting the differences) in getting HB and other things, which makes me think that the community does not give it the same importance, simply because the console failed.
