Nintendo officially announces LEGO NES Building Kit with pricing and release date

lego mario.jpg

After reported leaks, Nintendo made the news official today: a LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Building Kit will be released. This NES Building Kit comes complete with a controller, cables and even a cartridge slot. There's also buildable CRT TV, featuring a flat, mechanically-controlled 8-bit Mario figure on the scrolling screen. The NES kit will also be compatible with the LEGO Mario from the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course, which reacts to on-screen enemies, obstacles and power-ups similar to the classic Super Mario Bros. game. A brand-new trailer showing the kit in action was also released today:

The LEGO NES will be available exclusively from LEGO Retail Stores and LEGO.com from August 1st 2020 at $230. From 2021 it will be available also at other leading retailers around the world.

We got that instead of N64 Classic....
ironically the reason they don't want to release the n64 classic (this is from word of mouth) is because it would be too pricey to build a raspberry pi that could run the games with better accuracy than homebrew on the snes

the real release for me will be in 6+ additional months when lepin or one of the other chineseium brands knock it off and sell it for $50 on ali or taobao
Wow.

Thank you for letting me know about about Lepin!

Update: Looking on their website, they are not cheap at all. What a letdown.

Might as well stick to the dream of somehow affording real Lego.

depends the set, some are cheaper than others they still tend to be less than half the regular retail lego price and lepin tends to be one of the more pricey knockoff companies but i cant pronounce other ones or remember them off the top of my head. lol
i do find Taobao pricing is better than ali but harder to use because google translate is needed or fluency in Chinese

They should've just made it a lego casing and provided the NES Classic (or a Famiclone that can read NES carts plus some flash storage with included ROMs) board for the $230 price tag.

It's very clear that nobody in this thread has bought a Lego set before or knows how much they cost. Sets on average cost about 0.1USD per piece, which means a set with 2646 pieces would on average cost about 260USD. If you think that's too much than it's not for you.

it IS to much and i know for LEGO my whole life. In fact, those where my primary toys. Still, its for me, but its still to much...they where always TO MUCH, thats why i never had many of them as a kid even though i really liked them.

Also, price is kinda not realistic. Much bigger sets of lego technic cost similar or less. This has Nintendo branding all over it, ofc its pricey!
imo realistic price would be 150 to 100.

Also there is LEGO branding...they just overprice their bricks its a fact. Its certanly not for everione but the elite kids.

But when “LEGO” is in the name, you can charge whatever you like.
That's a complete truth!
