Hi! I'm currently having an issue on vWii with my 64GB SanDisk Cruzer Blade. This USB drive was originally used to store my Wii U games, but i recently got a bigger HD for this purpose, and now the SanDisk Cruzer Blade is being used to store Wii games.

It's currently formatted to NTFS, and all games are stored in the "wbfs" folder. Something i also tried to do, is to force USB Loader GX to use IOS 58 through meta.xml, which also didn't work. (EDIT: it did work now! but still can't load games)

I'm certain it's not a problem with the USB, as it worked flawlessly for Wii U games.

My syscheck:

Try to change the port, sometimes GX expect port 0, and the drive is on port 1.
iirc, the upper port doesn't work.

Was gonna suggest that and also cruzer blades are notoriously crap on wii and wii u, I'd try another stick if you have one
I'm aware that Cruzer Blades aren't the best option for this, but what really intrigues me is that it used to work normally for Wii U Games

I'd also like to mention that everytime USB Loader GX freezes, i have to unplug the power cable of my Wii U, even the POWER button won't work in this situation

You could try formatting to fat32 but I do think its your cruzer. I had two of them die but could still be read by pc. In the end I was using a san disk sd card inserted into a card reader!

Windows only gives me two options of formating: either NTFS (currently using this) or exFAT. Is it possible to make it fat32?

Are you windows 10? If so, Find your stick in This Pc (Devices and Drives) and right click, goto format and Fat32 should be an option.

There are many failure options.
Did the gx loader worked bevor with other drives on the lower port?

Failure Option 1:
Wrong USB port in GX Loader configured.

Failer Option 2:
Maybe the USB Loader Gx Version doesn´t support the USB Stick. I know that problem with HDD support prior GX Version.
So they changed the Loader IOS in the Latest. Are u on the latest GX Version? Also u can try and change the loader ios manually

Failer Option 3
Format Problems. Normal GX should support NTFS, for better compatibility i prefer Fat32.
There is tool called "Fat32 Formatter"

Failer Option 4:
Not correct Cios installed.
Check this treath for Troubleshooting https://gbatemp.net/threads/ios236-is-it-needed.423801/

I tried using both ports, and also tried configuring for USB Loader GX to read both.
My USB Loader GX is in the last update, i also tried to manually change loader ios to 58.
Also, I'm pretty sure my cIOS are up to date, because when i softmodded my Wii this year, i followed a very recent guide.
Can someone tell me a good tool to force my USB Stick to format to fat32? Windows 10 won't give me the fat32 option...

Does your Wii U recognize other USB stick or HDD on the lower port?
Im missing CIOS 236 at your Wii U. Some say its not needed, some say different.
U can also try install cios dx2 v10-alt,and use them as Loader ios.As i know, the latest GX Loader boots with ios 58 and then changes to dx2.

Link for the Tool for format fat32: https://de.softonic.com/download/fat32format/windows/post-download

Ya, Its sometimes trouble to get all working ;)

Otherwise check the similar treaths on gbatemp with the identical issue.

Alright, i just tried using a different 32GB cheap USB, and somehow it worked fine..
I just tried formatting my Cruzer Blade to fat32 but still didn't work... what could be wrong with my USB stick?

Hey guys, i've made some progress, after messing up with the loader settings, i could get ios 58 to load up, and this time, the usb initialized without freezing! finally!

But one thing is, everytime i click at the top and check the box to show Wii games, it says "USB device not initialized. Switching to channel list mode"

As it was mentioned at the beginning, now that you can run USBloader GX try changing the usb port loading from port 1 to both, you will need to install Hermez cIOS to port 200 or above... (either that or USBloader GX will tell you what to do)

edit: my bad, I didn't realize It was a virtual wii, ignore this

Its a Wii U not Wii. Hermes is not needed, and ist a potential brick risk because they are wii cios.

Glad you replied quickly, i was just about to plug my SD Card into the Wii U to install it...

I made USB Loader GX mount all devices, still didn't work. And trying to select both ports give me a warning to install Hermes

But u can install the CIOS 236.If u use a forwarder channel for the GX loader its recommended.
Download: https://static.wiidatabase.de/IOS-236-Installer-vWii.zip

And try this one : Your Usb stick will need to be formatted as FAT32 with 32k (32768) Allocation unit size and the partition marked as active.
Download fat32formatter: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

Did u install the dx2 cios correct ? https://wii.guide/cios

The installed d2x CIOS on 247,248,249 support only one port, the lower one. U can try to install the d2x - alt cios on 248 and 249, it supports both ports. Configure 248 or 249 in the Loader for testing as reload cios.
For more information: https://sourceforge.net/p/usbloadergx/wiki/Installation/

Your Cruzer runs well in Wii u mode, so i think there is failer, something is missing or wrong configured.
But check this compatibility List: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

Thanks for such clarified and easy to understand replies... It's really helpful...

About cIOS 236, I saw Cyan (USB Loader GX coder) saying to not install it because it was used only for old hacking methods and it's not used anymore... Do you think it can be somehow helpful?
I did format my USB Stick to fat32 with 32k cluster, still no luck.
My cIOS are all fine, i just checked them rn with the guide you sent;
I unfortunately couldn't find my USB Stick in that compatibility list...

I'm a step away from giving this up alredy, it's getting too complicated and it's giving me headaches haha. The best choice left for me rn i guess is to save money and buy a larger, Y cable powered HDD.
