Hey! Just made an account to ask this question. So I recently decided that I wanted to switch from Nintendont to USB Loader GX for the sole reason that it looks cooler and I like the cover art for games. Every game plays just fine on Nintendont and I have used USB Loader GX before to play wii games with no problems either so when I boot up USB Loader GX, all my games do appear and I can click on them to take me to the spinning disc images to play. When I press on the disc, it says that this game is on USB and gives me the choice to show my SD card or copy the game to my SD card, neither of which I want to do. Anyone willing to help me? Version 3.0 of USB Loader GX and I am a complete noob as well, sorry.

Hello,

USB keys are not recommended for wii, often a black screen or does not start.:hateit:

prefer an external hard drive in fat 32 and use "wii backup manager" to manage your games, and everything will work correctly :yay::yaywii:

Sounds like you have an oudated version of USB Loader GX that is trying to load the games with Dios Mios Lite (which only worked from SD card). Update your loader to the latest revision and make sure that in Loader Settings you have Gamecube mode set to Nintendont.

What is the most recent version? I thought that it was 3.0 but I guess I was wrong

If I want to keep all of my saves, images, etc what files do I keep?

This won't touch your saves. Just copy the new boot.dol, icon.png and meta.xml files and overwrite the old ones in your SD card.
Will do and thank you very much! Sorry for my late replies as well... Hope I can pay this forward someday and have a good one!

Really? I have always used small usb drives just fine without any issues. The only issues I've ever had were from old versions of USB Loader and slow loading which was just from a bad format

I'm not advanced with the Wii at all. I just wanted to know why usb drives were not recommended when I haven't had issues if I followed directions correctly. All I can recommend is that they have the correct ios, latest backup loading solution, and format their drive to have an allocation size that fits their needs (well that fixed my problem with huge Brawl mods with lots of small files on an sd but I've seen Metroid Prime load way faster)
