Broo! Gotcha, scared ya.
No, let me get this straight... with one question:
How reliable are Waninkoko and Hermes cIOS?
I really can't believe how many times I've seen the Help with USB Loader GX threads, and while it's not wrong... why are there so many people having problems with it?
I'm a noob with syschecks, and I honeslty don't know what's my own syscheck.
What I do remember, is installing Trucha, Waninkoko, Hermes and d2xcIOS installer, and I've never had a problem with Loaders.

I legit want to know what's people missing to come here and ask the same question over and over. Wouldn't be safer to make a sticky thread on which cIOS to install to avoid so many "Help with USB Loader GX" threads?

Many people cannot follow simple instructions. ModMii is the easiest, safest & most reliable way to softmod a Wii. I think most of these cases are from using YouTube and other scatterbrain tutorials. I'm with you though, if I wanted to softmod then install GX or WFL correctly. 10 minutes of research & homework would lead any Google search here to gbatemp.net. ModMii should be on the front page of the Wii forum, but as the old saying goes. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it.

using flashdrive is the biggest issue.

then, the setting, because some new HDD require using IOS58 to properly initialize. after years of saying "please use IOS58 as default IOS" I decided to change the default setting of latest revision to use 58, and now there are users posting for help because their HDD stopped working with 58 and they need to use cIOS again... (I don't know to please everyone)

followed by plugging in the wrong port, or not using y cable on vWii.

then, the wrong cIOS version/base is really low on the cause of people posting here.
usually, it's because they just forgot to install one.

but, hey, thank you for noticing that people are all posting the same thing over and over, instead of just reading the answer from one of the thousands solution already posted.
I try to write guide to explain things, but ... people have to read so they don't.

d2x is a continuation of Waninkoko, so it's the "same type" and can be considered one too. At least, I do list d2x as "waninkoko's cIOS" myself in guides or loader's sources.
Hermes cIOS is now rarely used if not even not needed (for example vWii don't use it at all). d2x should work with all games.

So, you're telling me that most of the problems is not because they're missing cIOS such as Waninkoko and Hermes?
I hacked my Wii in 2010, when the SD method was created and you didn't needed TwiliHack or SSPWN, or INDIANAPWN.
I agree they're too old, and I've always thought that this is the reason why I haven't had problems, except 5 days ago when I moved all my SD stuff to 1TB External Hard Drive and Homebrew Channel got me a DSI error, later to find out that indeed I have to format my HDD to Fat32.

So, is there an official list of the cIOS one must've install on their Wii's in order to make it work perfectly?
I certainly can't tell which ones I have, because long time ago I installed some cIOS to make cartain wads and other stuff to work... and I'm too lazy to do a syscheck and post it here to know what I have installed and what not.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

No one uses Waninkoko or Hermes cIOS anymore. d2x is just better.
Most of the people having problems (I'd say 80%+) are using flash drives, which usually don't work very well or at all with cIOS.
Didn't knew that! I thought that you still had to i nstall those first and then d2x.
I hacked my Wii in 2010 and I've hadn't any problems loading ISOS.
One time I tried to use USB LoaderGX and it didn't worked, so I put on my SD CFG USBLoader and it worked, no installation of cIOS and no other requirements. That's until I found out a thread that stated that you could load from SD card, so I installed d2x in order to do so. That was about a year ago.

I agree. If I can't find the problem or solve the problem by myself, that's when I'd do a thread asking for help.
That's why I almost never post threads asking for help, because most of the times I find the solution with a little more time of research.

there is no list of cIOS you 'need'.
you only need ONE single IOS as only ONE is used at a time anyway. USBLoaders don't care whether you have one or 20.

Install d2x cIOS v10 r52, base 57, and 99% of games will work.
the 1% will need specific base (38, 53, 56, etc.)

I'd recommend you to learn what IOS and cIOS are, and how they are used by the console:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/d2xl-cios-a-fork-of-davebaols-d2x-cios.558581/#post-8968173
then if even more curious, how the console works:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-hacking-explained.501605/

but if you have an old cIOS ... well that's also all you need !
you need just one cIOS. don't care that much about which one, unless it's very old (like Waninkoko rev17) because some games will have issues. d2x being an updated/improved revision of waninkoko's rev21, it contains lot of fixes. Most useful one is blocking IOS reloading in games (to play sam&max, metroid prime trilogy, zelda skyward sword, etc.), or the emuNAND feature to redirect NAND access to external devices (let's you make a copy of your console's data and that copy acts as your real console where you can install more than 512MB of games)

If I recall correctly, you had to install certain cIOS to make the SD Channel work, and to block Disc Updates, also some cIOS that fixed compatibility with New Super Mario Bros, Need For Speed and Rock Hero.
Ah, good memories.

Let's hope people finds out this thread next time, and they'll see your response which is clear and short.

SD channel from official menu?
if you install unsigned (pirated) games to SD menu, you need to patch your IOS used by the system menu. it's neither hermes nor waninkoko (nor d2x).
it's just a patch applied to the IOS used by the system menu in order to bypass the signature check, which is actually "restoring the trucha bug" into nintendo's bug corrected IOS.

in early time (2010?), you also needed to re-patch that bug into IOS to use a wad manager, maybe that's what you think about?
now, you don't even need a cIOS for that !

I don't remember needing a cIOS update for the games you listed.
you probably just messed your install by following random and bad tutorial with bad setup.
most "good" guides tell you to install 2 or 3 different cIOS, you don't need anything else. if you installed more, you did things without understanding, and the guide either didn't understand what you really needed or why.

Modmii generally do that and install all common hermes and waninkoko's cIOS, even if not required, because there were a demand for that and to prevent users from having issues ans asking questions.
but if you understand how your console work, you understand that you don't need that much.

Probably! Yes your're right. But somehow my Wii works fine. Again, I certainly can't remember what the fuck I installed on that poor bastard, I installed way too much stuff on it a long, long time ago.

if you still use your console and ever are curious to know what you have, you can follow the syscheck tutorial in my signature and post the result here. I'll tell you what you have, if it's old or fine.
that's not required if everything work for you, it's just if you want.

Maybe sometime out of curiosity.

CFG doesn't work without a cIOS (you might be able to start it up if it can use IOS58 like USB Loader GX can but to launch Wii games a cIOS is always needed, for GC no cIOS is needed though), you must have had one installed already.

Sure, I have some cIOS installed, only that I can't remember which. And I didn't posted this thread because I have a problem with cIOS or USB Loader GX.
I just wanted to point out that, maybe, someone could make a sticky thread on the front page about what someone needs to run USB Loader GX in order to not have many people asking the same question over and over.
