I am using godmode9 to create .cia files of my installed titles, i create them using the "create cia (standard)" procedure, and it seems to work fine producing cia files, but like half of the cia I create using this method doesn't work. When I'm going to open them using fbi, I have this error:

Failed to install CIA file
Result code: 0xD8E08065
Level: Permanent (27)
Module AM (32)
Desc: Error type -1 (101)

As I said, this doesn't happen in every title I have, but only in some titles, and they are always the same. I tried redoing the cia, uninstalling and reinstalling the title and then redoing the cia again, changing sd card, it doesn't matter, some titles are not working when they are made in .cia format. Anyone has an idea why this happens?

I'm using 2 consoles, an old3ds and a new3ds, both with boot9strap, fully updated with latest firmware/luma/payloads. I'm currently trying to put titles from the new3ds to the old3ds, and the non-working cia doesn't work with any of the two.

To determine if your titles were cleanly dumped,
  • GodMode9 → 0:/gm9/out/example.cia → CIA image options... → Verify file
Verification success = contents has passed their hash checks against tmd.bin, tmdchunks.bin, and probably some other header files.
Verification failed = Bad dump.

***
  1. Copy everything off your SD card onto a computer.
  2. Reformat the card in FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size with Windows File Explorer or guiformat (if bigger than 32 GB).
  3. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Don't skip this step.
If an error was reported, your card may be fake or faulty. This would be the cause of your *.cia files being corrupt.

I tried what you told me to do, no errors found in h2testw, full format and godmode9 cia file verification. However the error is still there. Getting the cia file from another source solves the problem, but I want my dump.

@mIRChele, you have the same issue as @Tuiridh.

I'm not sure if you guys' issue is how FBI handles CIA installation. Searching FBI's GitHub for an exact case was difficult...

Because a badly installed CIA can mess up the import.db and title.db in the Nintendo 3DS folder making your 3DS forget all your already installed titles, try installing this game on a separate SD card using a different installer like SOON!2 or BigBlueBox (DevMenu; official Nintendo SDK - requires finding it yourself).

Edit - You can also check if they're decrypted:
  • GodMode9 → 0:/.../example.cia CIA image options... →Decrypt file(...) → Decrypt inplace.
* Install only decrypted *.cia files.

On a different note, one of my .cia files do not have a "CIA image options" for it. Other have it, and I really want to encrypt this one game. Anyone know why I don't see the "CIA image options"?

A file with the *.cia extension doesn't necessarily makes it real CIA. If GodMode9 does not show CIA image options, that means the file is fake or corrupt.

I see. That makes sense. I found out that my file was actually corrupted when I tried to open it after installation. Thanks for the reply!
