An IOS number is just a number, you can have whatever you want stuffed into IOS 236 (aka titleid 00000001-000000EC)

Conventional use is as Jdbye described it; of course, you don't need one in the first place (assuming you're using modern homebrews)

Doesn't the CTGP-R channel installer still require it? Or was that changed?

Dunno, never heard of that homebrew (which if developed to modern standards would use AHBPROT to patch the active IOS and give itself the required permissions; or if the name happens to be indicative of its only purpose, shouldn't have been made in the first place and the channel released as a wad :P )

if your wad manager requires that IOS, it's an outdated apps.
nowadays, wad managers don't even require any cIOS are all. they are based on live patching of the system.

One of the recent manager :

I remember that it's not the "recommended one", there's a newer version somewhere, but I forgot which one.
at least, this version is the second best one as of today.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @SylverReZ,
    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Psionic Roshambo, Yeah, BonziBuddy was both spyware and ad-ware. It collected children's personal information without consent as well as display fake Windows popups.
