2c joycon drift is an issue and yes they have cheap out to make it cost-effective
"cost effective" also known as the most expensive controllers ever released for any console

*one could argue "xbox one elite controller", but that's an optional replacement rather than a mandatory controller that comes with the console, and has an expiry date

But isn't Switch's Mario Kart basically a port with a few bells and whistles?

I mean, it's not an original game for the system, so I can see a new Mario Kart further down the line, but it's way too early, I'd wager. Or the inclusion of a few tracks or characters through DLC.

Who knows? Maybe we will see Sega characters in there, like Smash?

Yeah, it was a port.
Nope, pretty sure it's single player only. However, at least it does things differently from a normal NSMB game. The goal is not to defeat Bowser but you're still saving Peach in a way, by rebuilding her castle. And the levels are apparently really well made and show more inventiveness than any NSMB game has.

We've also never had a port of a Mario Kart game released for a new console before. This is new to all of us. The closest comparison we have is Mario Kart Super Circuit + Mario Kart DS on a DS, or Mario Kart Double Dash + Mario Kart Wii on a WIi or Wii U. Not getting a new Mario Kart exclusive to the Switch is kind of like if Mario Kart DS or Mario Kart Wii were never made and the only Mario Kart game we had to play on those consoles were the last-gen ones.

While that is the way the trend is headed these days, Nintendo don't seem too affected by that. They still make the same sort of small/mid budget games they always have, with that unique Nintendo charm that makes us keep coming back for more. They've showed that you don't need huge budgets or big teams to make great games.

The problem is that the switch isn't exactly a different gen from the Wii U, sure, it replaced the Wii U, but that was it.
The Switch is a pretty different approach by Nintendo compared to pretty much everything that existed before it.

I haven't really had a Nintendo in a while besides the handhelds. The switch is kinda a handheld too so you have to understand this is a handheld so don't expect much from it. So I voted 50% only because mines is hacked and I did put the GBC, GBA, N64, DS Library on it. I don't know how people do it on a regular switch. I also have a switch lite but besides playing Pokemon or Mario Maker II or Mario Kart 8 on it I don't really touch it.

I'm not disappointed at all because the Switch was always a handheld to me so you cant set high expectations for it. Going off Nintendo History they never go the extra mile for anything and their units are much better after they been glitched or modded. If I was you if you haven't already just mod your switch and enjoy the free games.

Kinda a dumb topic, you could do the same for any and every system released, and you'll find people with varying degrees of approval of those systems as well. The PS4 would have plenty of 100% satisfactions, but also lots of dissatisfaction as well. Effectively, we've learned that we're all different and many of us like the product and some don't. I'm shocked, truly shocked.

You have to understand the Wii U was cut off because it failed, so the Switch is basically the Wii U.. All these said "ports" aren't really ports in the eyes of their creators, they're still current.

The only thing you're right about is the lack of themes, big fail there.

I voted 75%

My only complains being:

  • Shitty quality with the Joycons and the type of plastic used with the boddies of the system (Tell me I'm not the only one with a Nintendo Switch that looks all shiny on the backplate because of the use).
  • I know that the Home Menu is supossed to be minimalistic, but c'mon Nintendo, something with better sorting options and customization wouldn't hurt, as proven by the scene and their amazing theme designs.
  • Lack of user reviews and ratings in the eShop (these were present in their previous generation), because it is flooded ridiculously with shitty shovelware.
  • Better online infrastructure and better reasons to keep paying their NSO service.
  • No Mario Kart 9 yet.
Overall the system has been good so far but it can improve. I mainly play console exclusives on it, and everything else on PC/PS4, but there are some games that are far convenient to play on the go, there's when the Switch wins for me.

I understand your case more like a Wii U user than a Switch user. In fact Nintendo really can do everything you want but MK8 and other ports cited here are great games to be "only-on" Wii U. The next Switch console could be the best Nintendo Console because they dont have necessity to port old games since Switch is a sucess. I hope only retrocompatibility

The backplate looks shiny because you're filthy and you keep leaving your skin grease and Doritos grease on it :P
Any type of matte plastic will suffer from that over time.

Yeah the game changes definitely when you hack the system. If you consider the portability and the huge variety of games you can play with emulation the System gets way better. Yeah but I tried to focus on the non hacking stuff for the ordinary people. And heck if there's a Switch Pro that can Emulate Wii and GCN consistently, you'd eventually have a almost all Nintendo Systems in 1 Portable console.

We'll I don't see the problem talking with like minded people about something, and to see their view on it, you don't care that's OK. Then I don't understand why you even reply when you have nothing to add to the discussion.

Honestly, and I think I'm not the only one here thinking of that, I'm very satisfied of my Switch because of all of its hacking possibilites.
I mean, I used to have a GPD Win, a GPD XD, many retrogaming consoles, a PSP, a Vita etc. and I never felt so satisfied since I got this console on my hands. It's like you have everything on your bag : Switch games, the ACA collection, Nes&Snes official games, emulation with nro RetroArch, full emulation with Lakka, Android, homebrews like Checkpoint & NxThemes that help you manage your stuff etc.

Thing is, since Nintendo decided to stay off the customization road, we can't give our consoles its own personality. Also, they're not always helping their customers among communication and expectations (about some games). Also, they're giving us crazy increasing the price of their fancy accessories, and even the offical ones (a pair of joy-cons is a around 84€ in a general store in France.. LOL).

What do you do with a console that has no games on it? A system can only be so good as the games are. We'll would you be disappointed if the Switch would never have gotten an Mario Kart? Just because they thought "ok fk it no more Mario Kart from now on"?
It's the same thing for the other franchises.

I understand what you say with the ports, of course many people didn't have a chance to play these games that now can. But this doesn't mean you don't need to put additional effort in it, for example adding new tracks for Mario Kart. Because they appereny don't care about the people that have supported them in the Wii U Era, and already played their games, too much effort to add maybe 4 new Maps.

My only complaints are:
- The price of digital games is too high
- No additional classic consoles on NSO like N64, GBA, etc
- You have to pay to access SNES games when you could keep them forever on Wii and Wii U
- Download speed over WiFi is a tad slow

But I've been playing the heck out of it, FFXII, Grandia HD collection, you name it, and with the Pro Controller, I haven't used a Joycon in months. Those things are kinda crap IMO.

OH haven't mentioned the how extremely great the pro controller plays and feels in my palms. Probably the best controller to date.

Switch stinks, I've had more fun hacking the console then actually playing anything.

Hybrid consoles were a mistake, I think that's why they made the Switch lite as a handheld only.

I've tried the beta for Xbox cloud play it blows anything the Switch can do out of the water.

I really hope Nintendo makes another home console again. I miss the Wii.
