Hacking System software 9.90?

I am trying to update the mod on this PSP which I have not used for many years under system settings it says it is version 5.50 GEN D3
yet when I try to run the 6.6 update I get a message to say that the system version is 9.90 and no need to update no idea what's going on please help

there's an option in the recovery menu to spoof your firmware version. check in the seplugins folder for the txt file. either change the spoof or disable it in the recovery menu.

There clearly is some version spoofing in place
Check your cfw's settings (recovery menu) for anything that may be related like "update block" or "use version.txt"

How do I get into the recovery mode it has been many years since by updated this so have forgotten everything

I was planning to use the infinity mod by Mr Mario that I saw online should I use that is that the same as the guide on here or shall I scrap that and just follow the guide here

iirc, I think it's hold R while booting. you can also get in the recovery menu via the vsh menu (select I think) while on the xmb.

iirc, the option says something about the version.txt.

you need to disable it. check the version.txt on your memory stick. it will be in the seplugins folder. see if it says 9.90.

Silly q how do I check the mem stick I assume on the device .
If so I can't find where to find any folders

you can connect the psp to a computer with a usb cable. there are also adapters for the memory stick.

you need to disable it. check the version.txt on your memory stick. it will be in the seplugins folder. see if it says 9.90.

Checked the seplugins folder on the stick and it's blank there's nothing in it?

and, there's no version.txt? did you find that option in the recovery menu? put this in the version.txt document:

release:6.61:

that will spoof you to the latest version.

Copy above text into this file.

The old GEN firmwares all set the version to 9.90 in f1 so no thats normal for that CFW.

make that version.txt file and paste what godreborn posted into it (minus the smiley face) or in the in the XMB press select to open the VSH menu then set USB mode to flash 1, thats where the version.txt file thats normally used is iirc.

You can either edit the version in there to be your actual firmware or better yet just make a copy of it to seplugins and change the first line to "release:5.50:" and enable the version spoofing in recovery.

Ok silly question I assume by doing this spoofing this just means we have a base firmware to then run the custom launcher etc over which I then need to install etc?
