It is not canon to the games.

As you can see they make a clear distinction between main series canon and anime canon.

"The canon of the core series consists of the following:
Events occurring in the core series games are the ultimate canon."

"The canon of the Pokémon anime consists of the following:
The events of each and every episode are canon."

Of course they can't have the same canon - the show has all sorts of inconsistencies.

Here is one list of errors, there are many which encompass most aspects of pokemon down to getting the Pokemon names themselves wrong.

I see. In that case, which canon does the comic follow? It has game elements, a real life element to release a game, anime reactions... :P (though staff could just say whatever makes it work ;o; )

Do you think that you might be... overthinking things?

a pokeball could be used to capture a trainer. A pokeball is a matter - Energy converter after all. Of course one would have to override the safty features.
The tech envolved to create such a advanced devices is well beyond the pokemom worlds level of tech. we are talking star trek level tech. Thats something the poke world is not even close to. It must be alien tech that seeded the planet with pokemon 20 million years ago, poke time of course.

You obviously have never met my man Kurt from Azalea town. He can do wild things with Apricorns.

How do we know that trainer isn't a pokemon in disguise?
A Ditto?
A Zorua?
A Zoroark?
Who knows?!?!?
