Why hasn't anyone reverse-engineered the XCI loader into a CFW yet? That's literally the only thing they have going for them, and the only feature I use
Its the "not wanting to look like a cock developer" thing.

Indeed... XCI mounting is VERY possible in Atmosphere. All the tools / calls etc are there... Just needs a virtual cart port hooking into calls for the cart port. And of course an interface to select the XCI in the first place. And a few other bits.

Nobody cares enough to do it - and those who could do it aren`t interested as they don`t want to be "that" guy who enabled raw XCI images to be used on Atmosphere.

There is only one reason people need XCIs (pieces of 8). Nobody wants to be "that" guy. TX take enough flak as it is! They don`t want to be tarred with that brush.

Because it uses illegal codes

Shit, if I knew how to code, I'd definitely be "that guy", but I can't code.

People are intrested and know. But what I have heard with people I spoken with is that if they pull the trigger, Nintendo will see the wrath of a thousand suns against the homebrew community. So rather not rock the boat.

There are places where people openly share XCIs and NSPs of games, some even leaks of games that havent even released yet, and they do so with zero care or fear of what Nintendo will do do about it. But its the XCI loader itself that people are afraid to put out there? And this is while TX have an actual XCI loader that they sell to the public?

Unless I'm missing something, this doesnt make sense to me.

I get your point but perhaps when it comes down to brass tacks Team X are a lot harder to track down than some of our wonderful homebrew developers.

I am grateful to all developers, coders, testers etc.. and contrary to early beliefs am not in any corner or any side.

It would be nice if one of the big boys broke their silence and cleared things up though, but they shouldn't really need to in all honesty.

no it doesn't make sense, this doesn't stop CPY and Codex from cracking Denuvo protected games or all the other Warez and cracking groups out there releasing stuff.

I've been in that scene in my youth. Let me tell you that the encryption etc. and codewords being used is nuts with in the scene. So it's a lot harder to track them down, than some schmupp on Github (that is owned by Microsoft).

This is one bizarre thread?, if you’re waiting for Atmosphere getting a custom xci emulation loader then you will be waiting forever, just the same as rom loading on the 3ds it will never happen it takes too much time & effort and funding also if this is what you really want just go and buy sxos support TX that initiated xci loading! sxos is not going to break the bank for anyone so expecting a cracked version to come along does not make any sense either..

No, it's not very hard at all to get XCI loading with an opensource, legal method to work apparently with Atmosphere. Just read what I said earlier.

That’s not what I have been told it does take a lot of effort and doesn’t come easy also another issue is some devs don’t want to be the one that released xci emulation for Atmosphere which Michael is clearly against.

They don't upload them to any torrent site. Release group upload to a Top site(s), Then they pre it (publish it if you so will) and it's released, Racers spreads it to their selective sites, some where in the chain someone leaks it to the public. If it's the release group themselves (probably not since if someone finds out, they're kicked out and forever a persona non grata), a racer or how it mostly is, someone that take payment so people can access their FTP site opens the hole to the scene.

Spoken with a couple, thanks to Mitm for example, it's quite easy. Might been harder before but not anymore. As Matty said, the calls are already there.

When you consider that many people have SXOS, and all the free/open source users install NSPs anyway, the amount of hacked Switches that are not pirating games is probably a VERY small minority.

So morally speaking, arent you doing more good by releasing a free XCI loader since it takes money out of TX's pockets and stops a company profiting from a piracy method?

This is nothing about morals. It's about safety of your well being. A lawsuit is pretty damn expensive even if Nintendo would most likely loose it.

Yet we have the release of sig patches and tools to install NSPs. Why arent these people afraid of lawsuits? And how is that any less "dangerous" to release than a XCI loader?

Since these patches aren't the samething as fullblown XCI loader I would say. An XCI loader is just for piracy (sure it can be used for other things but to 99.99999985134% it will be piracy). So there is really no use to make it without risking a proper lawsuit by Nintendo. NSP still fills the exact need for most people so it's nothing massive. If anyone within the "top" of hacking/development would give their cents to it, it would be nice. But as far as the ones I've spoken with. It's all come down to being afraid of lawsuit/hunt from Nintendo.

that and didn't they have someone knock on someone's door not too long ago :ninja: but the crime being pinned to using stolen code would allow N to try and claim you were responsible and you would be hit with damages/losses in the millions which translates to years  so in a plea deal you get maybe 10 to 15

times are different with court orders you could narrow someone down to an area
