TX Presents SX OS v2.9 BETA - With Full v9.0 Firmware Support!

NEW UPDATE FIXES UPGRADE ISSUES!

PLEASE USE V2.9.1b INSTEAD OF 2.9

YOU CAN NOW USE CHOIDUJOURNX 1.0.2 WITH 2.9.1b

**********************************************

Good day, fans and believers! We hope you are all having a good weekend.

SXOS29.png

Team-Xecuter has done it again, they have updated their world-famous SX OS to now support the latest v9.0 Switch firmware from Nintendo.
Today, we bring you a much needed update of SX OS. Full compatibility with the latest Switch firmware 9.0! Sorry that we kept you waiting, we wanted to make sure all our unique features still properly work.

Additionally, we also introduced support for the "Horizon split format". This means that people who use FAT32 can have folders named 'game.xci' with split parts contained therein (named 00, 01, 02, etc.). Make sure the folder has the 'archive' bit set.

We know you are waiting for some other big features in SX OS, they are coming.. We wanted to get this compatibility update out first though.

So what are you waiting for? SX OS 2.9 beta is available for download on our website now! (and also through the builtin online updater part of SX OS.)

I'm trying to recover boot0 and b00t1 from bricked 9.0 emunand. Do you know if a backup of boot0 and boot1 from an older firmware (8.1) would work? Or those files are specific for each firmware and the backup needs to be the same as the last firmware?

I believe tinfoil does it, which is what SX installer is based off (in fact it's the same dev that works on SX installer). I may be wrong though, but I'm fairly certain some of the NSP installers also handle XCI installs.

tinfoil converts it to NSP first then installs it into the home menu. he wants to
to install xci without converting it to nsp?

I did not know this. What version of tinfoil? I usually use old tinfoil plus fluffy to install even large nsps on my fat32 sdcard. Can this tinfoil make use of same connection? The reason i don't use xci is because 1. Fat32 sd card can not handle large xcis and 2. Putting the game on sdcard and then installing it requires double the storage space initially. Direct install from pc is what i prefer.

Sick of hearing about xci. Who cares. If you get a 400gb card and install your games via xci or nsp your going to have more games then most could play in a whole year. If your changing games that often you don't have time to install then your playing shit games that don't hold your interest.

Best part is the only way to fix this non bricked issue is to use atmosphere. Think about that for a second.

Sx users don't seem to bash atmosphere anywhere near as much when they all required it to fix there broken console.

Keep your xci and your shitty broken cfw. I'll stick with nsp and a cfw that's always working.

Btw I see gary is still hiding. Don't see his apologies anywhere. Funny that hey. Clearly tx have no balls to admit there issues on here until it's patched and fixed.

Fellow gbatemp users,

It has been reported by many SX OS users that the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA is causing several different types of issues, some of which are quite major. This thread is to help warn others who may see an available update and quickly jump to the latest BETA 2.9 release without realizing the potential issues at hand.

The main issue of concern is:
1) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: When a user downloads the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA, copies the new boot.bin to their microSD card, boots into the new 2.9 BETA CFW and initiates a firmware update to 9.0.0 (and other firmware versions) using ChoiDujourNX version 1.0.1, it may cause the update to stop partially through on the "flashing firmware packages 0/6" screen. When this happens the user is forced to hard reboot the console which results in a black screen. At this point many users chose to restore their NAND backups in order to get access back into SX OS again. Others mention that they are able to load into atmosphere CFW and downgrade their firmware back to 8.1.0 and use SX OS 2.8 again. For those who ran into this issue while using emunand are able to re-create emunand which also seems to correct the issue.

**There is a work around that I and others were able to do to avoid the above issue: It requires you to load into SX OS 2.8, install firmware 9.0.0 using ChoiDujourNX version 1.0.2 and once this is completed you are able to change boot.bin to the latest 2.9 version. Other methods for updating firmware successfully include using TXInstaller, Tinfoil, official Nintendo servers, etc.**

Update - SX OS 2.9.1 Released: "Fixed Issues With ChoDuJourNX"

2) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: Loading into firmware 9.0.0 causes a GC Fuse burn (Game Cart Fuse) that prevents you from using game carts on firmware versions lower then 9.0.0.

3) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: This seems to break custom XCI loading. We are unsure if this is related to the GCFuse burn. Waiting to see if this can be corrected with a new SX OS revision.
Update - SX OS 2.9.1 Released: XCI Compatibility Improved, "there is still XCI compatibility issues, we're looking into, but this should solve a lot of issues for people who could not play any games on 9.x. We're investigating those... People who repacked games to include updates, those are the only ones that still have issues on 9.x." **People are reporting that they are now able to mount their custom XCIs on firmware 9.0.0**

Minor Issues:
4) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: In docked mode when exiting the album using the "B" button, causes error 2168-0002. Reportedly corrected by TX in upcoming revision.
5)
Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 8.1.0: When attempting to initiate a firmware update to 9.0.0 using ChoiDujourNX version 1.0.2 it stops on the "Testing for BIS Protection" screen, user is forced to do a hard reboot but is able to get back into SX OS 2.9 still on firmware 8.1.0.
6) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: No longer allows you to install incognito.
7) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: Lock screen themes no longer work, SX OS 2.9 does not currently have IPS patching.
8) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: Attempting to use cheats when using XCI from external SSD/HDD will cause an error. *Cheats work fine when used with XCI via MicroSD.*
9) Using the latest SX OS 2.9 BETA on firmware 9.0.0: Attempting to use Homebrew apps while docked causes error 2168-0002.

I realize that there may be more issues I am unaware of. Some of the mentioned issues may only affect certain users. There may be more workarounds for some of these issues and many of these issues may be resolved by an update by TX.

TX did make a post on their discord warning the following, quote:
"@everyone There have been enough reports of people having trouble upgrading to 9.0 with choidujourNX... Please just stay on 8.1.0 until further notice while we look into what is going on. If you insist on upgrading it seems the 2.8 boot.dat file is not showing the same problems.
Remember

1: ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR NAND BEFORE CHANGING FIRMWARE VERSIONS. ALWAYS - NO EXCEPTIONS!

2: Disable any themes before upgrading firmware.

3: Always enable the exFAT driver when upgrading.

4: Pay attention to the AutoRCM option if you are using ChoidujourNX. Choose wisely."

Now we have to wait to see what response we get from TX, whether it be a new SX OS revision that includes many fixes to these issues or a statement/post addressing these problems. Personally I would recommend that TX temporarily removes the new 2.9 BETA download until these issues are looked into in more detail and a proper revision released that does not negatively impact their user base.

I made this post simply to warn others that may update without knowing this information. Hope I was able to help some.

Update: TX are aware of the bugs. They are working to resolve these issues and will be releasing a new SX OS revision that will include many bug fixes. Please note that this is a BETA version and users are encouraged to take the proper precautions including making backups prior to attempting firmware updates and/or any other major changes to their consoles. Users are also encouraged to wait until other community members have fully tested new BETA versions in order to ensure a smooth update. TX has also been providing a warning on the update page within SX OS which states, quote: "Note: Beta updates contain latest features but may have degraded stability.".

Update #2:
TX Presents SX OS v2.9.1 BETA:
  • Fixed Issues With ChoDuJourNX
  • XCI Compatibility Improved
Remember: Please always have a recent NAND backup available! And we always recommend using an emuNAND. We know you are waiting for some other big features in SX OS, they are coming… But we needed to get this compatibility bug fix out for v9.0.0 first though.

Update #3:
Nintendo Releases Firmware Ver. 9.0.1 (Released September 30, 2019)
General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience, including a solution for the following:

  • Resolved an issue that may have triggered errors during game play.
  • Resolved an issue that may display an instruction to remove the Joy-Con during the initial setup of Nintendo Switch Lite.
**Seems SX OS 2.9.1 is working with the newly released firmware 9.0.1. Please wait for official TX confirmation prior to updating!**

I only wonder why isn't that already on 1st page...
Almost as if there's a subtle but still-discernible difference between "not 100% compatibility" and "fucking up paying customers' systems left and right".

Give @blawar a break, he doesn't have time to provide what was promised and solve users' problems while he's busy defending his ever-more hostile and convoluted DRM.
I don't care for a TX emunand updater at this point, I'd rather have a quick fix for the major bugs on SX OS 2.9 1st than about their installer app with updating features...

And I totally agree that for a paid product, they take quite a lot of time to update, but that I already knew since even before the switch got hacked that at some point the more community focused atmosphere would always be ahead of anything else, specially anything paid and when atmosphere gets fully released as finished we might even have different builds from different communities with different stuff to test and there might be a time for the nightly builds :).

And I agree that TX should give proper tested updates only, the software was paid but it only means 0% guarantee of coding quality in this case for a paid software :shit:.

Oddly Atmosphere doesn't allow the install of Incognito either. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence! :D
Actually you can install it with patches and adding a flag. Though it's typically not a great idea. I did it on emuNAND just as an emergency stop-gap in case I ever connected to online without 90DNS, since I'm never connecting it to nintendo server anyway as that's what my sysNAND is for.

yeha, I'm so sick of hearing opinions from small minded SX OS haters who put down every advantage that SX OS has over the alternative CFW.

You must also be so sick of all the SX OS users posting how terrible and useless the advantages that atmosphere has over SX OS as well, right?

If only people would use their CFW of choice and stop being such total shitcunts to each other!

btw: I went on a 2 week holiday and loaded up my 4TB 2.5" portable USB HDD with XCI images. While on the cruise I would play a few different games with the USB HDD attached direct to the switch to get an idea what the games were about and then I would install the XCI with tinfoil direct to my SD card so I didn't need the USB HDD connected. I could then play the game while sitting on the deck and drinking. Isn't it amazing that there are uses for features that some small minded, shallow people just cannot fathom could even be a viable option?

Best part is the only way to fix this non bricked issue is to use atmosphere. Think about that for a second.

Sx users don't seem to bash atmosphere anywhere near as much when they all required it to fix there broken console.

Again.. using atmosphere is just one option one user tried to restore the failed firmware update. Other users found other ways to work around the problem - isn't choice and having different options a wonderful thing? We don't NEED to use atmosphere at all, if we don't want to.

Keep your xci and your shitty broken cfw. I'll stick with nsp and a cfw that's always working.

Btw I see gary is still hiding. Don't see his apologies anywhere. Funny that hey. Clearly tx have no balls to admit there issues on here until it's patched and fixed.

We'll keep our USB HDD support for installing NSPs as well (no PC needed) and our previous options of emuNAND came in pretty useful over the past year as well - my Switch is still on version 3.0.something OFW, so I have the OPTION (again, that magical word) of using other exploits or maybe even one day there will be the magical unicorn of a cold boot exploit! My emuNAND is on version 8.1.0 and has protected my Switch's sysNAND from any logging and this banning online, possibly even kept the resale value of the switch higher as well.

Options.

Wow.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I finally moved to Kosmos/Atmosphere.
Things I'll miss: Emunand as Files.
And that's it. Converting XCI to NSP and installing via USB is cool.

If you're happy mate, then that is good.. that is the wonder of having options available to you! But you can install XCI over USB as well (possibly over the network protocol as well, I've never personally tried but I'm sure I read somewhere that Blawar implemented it).

EmuNAND as files is great - makes doing regular backups of you Switch a fast and easy process. Hoping that option comes along to atmos as well some day.

Enjoy!

Just popping in to say that atmosphere can install NSP and also XCI by converting to NSP. SX Installer is literally just a modified version of Tinfoil, which we have access to in atmosphere. You are correct about loading XCI files without installing however.
You cant install xci.

As soon as you convert it, its no longer an xci.

Tomato tomarto.

Lets stop with the war, personally sx os is better, has better features, people love to rant copy steal yet no proof or facts

One muppit here claims updating firmware in sx os brick, yet again no legit proof and trust me i know.

What the fuck is all this dribble.

Im not going to type as much dribble as you.

But

Why download a file, install it, then delete the nsp to free up space

You can have 1 file, xci

If your storing on a usb hdd which atmos doesnt support, and your going out, install the xci and resume while on the go.

Anti sx folk simply chat shit just because they now have a free option to pirate.

Im using xci and nsp just fine on atmosphere / kosmos - Both install with tinfoil

Xci drag n drop is nice

Nsp not having to mount a game is nice

A CFW that actually works is even better

LOADS of people here, and elsewhere, have bricked while updating firmware with this new update. TX deigned to post a warning about it somewhere on their forum apparently (edit: or maybe it was discord), but not where anyone downloading the update would see it of course. It's a recoverable brick, but sounds like a hassle to fix, especially for the non-techie users who chose SX for its claims about plug & play simplicity.
"Trust me" no this is just another time you're contradicting what's been extensively and repeatedly shown to be true.

I'm fairly certain one of the NSP installers for atmosphere can do it. Either way, when you install an xci, it's basically converting to an NSP anyway. I'll need to look into the atmosphere stuff though as I don't have enough experience to say whether they work the same. I just know that SX Installer, which is what I believe is what SX OS users use to install NSP/XCI, is similar to Tinfoil and also made by the same dev of tinfoil, so it wouldn't surprise me if XCI installing was in tinfoil as well, though maybe the direct install is exclusive to the SX Installer variant of the code.

Also i've never been part of the war. Do I think it's bad SX OS uses stolen code? Yes. Do I hate everyone who chooses SX OS over atmosphere? No. I honestly just want SX OS users to hold the devs to higher standards. Multiple features missing/broken and bricks are confirmed. They aren't permanent and are fixable, but still. Esepcially given that people paid money for this product, they shouldn't just blindly fight for SX OS, and should hold them accountable when they do wrong in order to make them do better.

Like I love Nintendo, but I'll still blast them when they do something stupid or break certain things. Mainly because I want them to do better.

That's cool, but some people prefer to not install the files, otherwise we'd just use NSP files instead of XCI

Xci drag n drop is nice
Yip,thats why we use it on SXOS. To try a new game simply requires a copy of the XCI loaded on the SD card.No need to wait for it to install

Nsp not having to mount a game is nice
This works for most played games, but the it doesnt even take 5 seconds to load a new game if you only scanning the SD card

A CFW that actually works is even better
I've personally never had an SXOS related issue,so for all intents and purposes it actually worked for me all this time without issue
